Japan: 15,000 women protest against expanding the size of the Self-Defense Forces.

According to Kyodo, on June 20, approximately 15,000 women gathered in Tokyo to protest security bills that would expand the scope of Japan's Self-Defense Forces' overseas operations.

Dressed in red, symbolizing anger, and carrying signs expressing their opposition to the bills, the protesters formed a human circle around the Parliament building where the bills were being debated.

According to government-sponsored bills, Japan would be allowed to exercise the right of collective self-defense – that is, to use force to defend an ally under attack.

Many legal experts argue that this would contradict Japan's Constitution, which condemns war.
