Prosecutors in Chiba prefecture, Japan, decided to prosecute Yasumasa Shibuya, the suspect in the murder of Linh in late March, the Yomiuri Shimbun reported.

Shibuya, 46, had remained silent when he was arrested mid-month but authorities determined there was substantial evidence.

The girl's DNA matched hair and blood samples found in two cars belonging to the suspect.

Investigators believe Shibuya abducted Linh minutes after she left home for school and took her to a campervan parked near his home where he raped her. He is believed to have strangled her and then used another car to dump her body in a canal 10 kilometers away.

Shibuya lives just 300 meters from Linh's house, is the president of the parents' association at her school and a member of the group that monitors local students going to school every day.
