(Baonghean.vn) - According to the White House announcement, Japan and the US have urged North Korea to not only abandon intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) that can hit the US mainland, but also abandon short- and medium-range missiles capable of hitting Japan and South Korea.
The announcement stated that after a two-day summit in Palm Beach, Florida, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and US President Donald Trump "reaffirmed the need for North Korea to abandon all weapons of mass destruction and ballistic missile programs." According to the announcement, the two leaders also emphasized their commitment to achieving "the goal of lasting and verifiable denuclearization of North Korea."

Earlier the same day, speaking at a joint press conference with Prime Minister Abe, who is visiting the US, President Trump pledged that he will do everything possible to ensure a successful summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un on the issue of denuclearization of the Korean peninsula.
However, the US leader warned that he would cancel the meeting if he found it unproductive. According to the plan, the summit between the two countries' leaders will take place in late May or early June this year./.
