Japan launches satellite to monitor global rainfall.

The Japan Aerospace Research and Development Agency (JAXA) announced that it has successfully launched a rocket carrying a satellite to monitor global rainfall, helping meteorologists predict major storms.

The H-IIA rocket, carrying the Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) device, was launched from an island in southern Japan at 3:37 a.m. local time on February 28.

This satellite was jointly developed by Japan and the United States with the aim of collecting data from several other satellites in Earth orbit, then combining it with its own measurements to create a detailed map of rainfall across the planet.

Weather experts say that with a more detailed and comprehensive rainfall map, they can make more accurate predictions about extreme weather events such as storms and floods.
