The new measures adopted include banning third-country ships from entering Japan after passing through North Korean ports, and banning the transfer of goods or money to North Korea.

These measures are part of a package of sanctions against North Korea announced by the Japanese government on February 10 to prevent the flow of money, people and goods to North Korea.

Previously, on February 18, US President Barack Obama signed a law to strengthen economic sanctions against North Korea, while South Korea also completely stopped all activities at the Kaesong joint industrial park located on North Korean territory.

Responding to Mr. Obama's decision, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei said the current situation on the Korean peninsula is complicated and sensitive, "relevant parties should remain calm and exercise restraint."

Mr. Hong Lei emphasized: "Hot issues cannot be resolved by sanctions or pressure. Any action that may affect the interests of a third party will only complicate the situation"./.
