Furthermore, in an effort to contribute to peace in Mindanao, where the Philippines' largest Muslim rebel group is fighting the Manila government, Abe also introduced a new official development assistance (ODA) package aimed at building schools, hospitals, and developing human resources for a planned autonomous political entity.
In the areas of economics and people-to-people exchanges, the Japanese leader put forward a package of proposals such as developing urban infrastructure, accepting Filipino nurses and domestic helpers, and increasing the number of scheduled flights between the two countries.
Mr. Abe also expressed Japan's readiness to cooperate closely with the Philippines to strengthen their "strategic partnership" due to shared "strategic interests" and fundamental values between the two countries.
Manila is the third and final stop on the Japanese Prime Minister's three-country Southeast Asian tour this week, aimed at deepening Japan's ties with the region. He previously visited Malaysia and Singapore.
