According to Kyodo news agency, the Japan Coast Guard (JCG) announced on October 21 that it had rescued all 64 Chinese crew members on a cargo ship that caught fire in waters near Okinawa province.

According to the announcement, JCG deployed aircraft and patrol boats on the night of October 20 after receiving a notice from Taiwanese authorities (China) saying that the 12,703-ton Ming Yang ship was on fire in the sea about 150 km southeast of Japan's main island of Okinawa.

According to the JCG Region 11 Command, the fire appeared to have originated from the stern of the ship.

JCG also said it had brought all 64 Chinese crew members onto its patrol ship at around 7 a.m. on October 21./.
