The cruel knife and the pain of the one left behind
(Baonghean.vn)-Not only are they neighbors who help each other in times of need, Chu's wife and Mr. Nghi's wife are also cousins. However, because of a small conflict, Luong Tran Chu took the life of his cousin's husband with a cruel knife strike...
Receiving the notice from the provincial people's court that Luong Tran Chu (born in 1965), residing in Nghia Lien commune, Nghia Dan, would be brought to trial for murder, Ms. H., the victim's wife, did not forget to bring her husband's portrait to attend the hearing. Tears were streaming down her sunburned cheeks from working hard all day in the fields, taking her husband's place to raise and educate their young children.

Defendant Luong Tran Chu |
Sitting next to Ms. H in the right row was Ms. Luong Thi Ph., wife of the defendant Luong Tran Chu, who sat in the middle row to avoid the eyes of the victim's family. The two sisters, who had been together through thick and thin, suddenly became enemies, and it was difficult to heal the emotional wounds that Luong Tran Chu had caused.
Also present at the trial were the victim's younger brother and two young children. The mother and two children wore white mourning scarves and occasionally bowed their heads to wipe away tears as they listened to the defendant Chu recount the case to the jury.
Ten years ago, defendant Luong Tran Chu and Mr. Luong Van Nghi (born in 1971), both residing in Nghia Lien commune, Nghia Dan district, contracted a plot of hilly land to grow sugarcane and fruit. In 2005, Chu sold the plot of land to Mr. Nghi. Every harvest season, Mr. Nghi and his wife brought fruit to Chu's family.
However, the two families later had a conflict. At noon on April 16, 2016, Chu went to a neighbor's house to attend a wedding and met Mr. Nghi, and the two continued to argue. Chu thought Nghi was his wife's cousin but was rude and looked down on him... Chu left. At about 2:30 p.m. the same day, Chu went to Mr. Nghi's house and asked him to return the land he had previously transferred, but Mr. Nghi did not agree. Chu said: "Don't be rude, I will kill you with a knife", "I dare you", Mr. Nghi replied.
Angry, Chu went to buy a knife to slash Mr. Nghi. Seeing that, Mr. Nghi ran out to the yard, grabbed a shovel and attacked Chu twice on the right shoulder. Chu took the knife and slashed Mr. Nghi many times on the arm and chest. Mr. Nghi was seriously injured and ran away. Chu still held the knife and chased after him, slashing him once on the right back. The wound penetrated his lung, causing Mr. Nghi to collapse on the yard floor and die on the way to the emergency room. After committing the crime, Chu threw the weapon on his motorbike and fled.

Victim's family |
Standing in the dock, defendant Chu still did not truly confess. The defendant repeated the statement that he had drunk too much that day and could not control his actions... When the court asked the victim's family for their opinion, did they request a reduction in the defendant's sentence before the Council deliberated? Seeing that the defendant lacked sincerity and did not apologize, the victim's younger brother requested the court to severely punish defendant Chu according to the law.
Considering the aggravating and mitigating circumstances, the Trial Panel sentenced defendant Luong Tran Chu to life in prison and ordered him to compensate the victim's family more than 100 million VND.
Besides the sentence the court has passed, there is probably also a sentence of conscience that will forever haunt Luong Tran Chu for the rest of his life. Because of Chu's cruel knife, one person died and those left behind have to bear a pain that nothing can fill...
