Japan summons Chinese ambassador for first time under Abe
AFP reported that on January 8, the Japanese Foreign Ministry summoned the Chinese Ambassador in Tokyo to "strongly protest" the appearance of Chinese government ships in the waters around the disputed Senkaku Islands (called Diaoyu by Beijing) in the East China Sea.
This is the first time under Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's administration that Tokyo has summoned the Chinese ambassador to protest the incident.

Japan's Foreign Ministry said it has asked China to stop sending ships to the area around the Tokyo-controlled island chain.
On December 24, 2012, a Chinese aircraft and four warships were detected near the disputed Senkaku/Diaoyu Islands in the East China Sea. This incident followed a series of similar moves on December 22./.
