'Picking up mistakes' at the 2017 Kite Awards

Director Ly Minh Thang's film won the most important title and received the most awards at the annual event of the Ho Chi Minh City Cinema Association.

On the evening of April 9, the 2017 Kite Awards took place in Ho Chi Minh City, honoring films, television, science, documentaries, animations, short films and research works of the past year.

In the film category, the film Saigon, I Love You by director Ly Minh Thang was awarded the Golden Kite Award for "Best Film". In addition, the film also won the awards for "Best Supporting Actor" (Huynh Lap), "Best Screenwriter" (Ngoc Bich), "Best Designer" (Nguyen Anh Thao) and "Best Music" (musician Duc Tri, shared the award with Tam Cam: The Untold Story).

Released in October last year, Saigon, I Love You is a comedy, romance and psychological drama. The film has humane content, depicting many lives in Ho Chi Minh City. At the same time, the directors were also praised for their efforts to incorporate Cai Luong - a national art form - into the main stream of the film.

The film crew of “Saigon, I Love You” received the most awards at the Kite Awards this year.

The movie 12 Zodiacs: Drawing the Path for Love to Run also won big with the awards for “Best Director” (Vu Ngoc Phuong), “Best Actress” (Jun Vu) and “Best Supporting Actress” (Quynh Chi).

Among them, Jun Vu’s award was the most surprising when she surpassed Minh Hang - the actress who played two characters at the same time in Bao gio co yeu nhau. Because Jun Vu did not attend, director Vu Ngoc Phuong received the award on her behalf. The sports film Sut won two titles, including “Best Actor” (Ha Hien) and “Best Cinematography” (Bob Nguyen).

The 2017 Kite Awards ceremony gathered many artists, but the award presentation took place quickly and the organization still had many mistakes.Many viewers complained that the MC and award presenter repeatedly read the wrong movie name.

The work 12 Zodiacs: Drawing a path for love to run was continuously called by MC Nguyen Khang as 12 Zodiacs: Drawing a path for deer to run. In the award ceremony for the category "Outstanding TV series", MC Hong Anh called Zippo, mustard and you to Zippo, mustard, you and me.

Vu Ngoc Phuong received the award for "Best Director".

When presenting the Golden Kite Award to Saigon, I Love You, MC Nguyen Khang also mistakenly invited director Vu Ngoc Phuong (film 12 constellations: Ve duong cho yeu chay) to share. Afterwards, he and MC Hong Anh had to correct the mistake.

In the category of “Best Actress in a TV Series”, La Thanh Huyen was named along with Meritorious Artist Minh Trang. However, the organizers did not prepare enough two trophies, leaving artist Minh Trang without a trophy to celebrate. She stood holding hands with Kim Tuyen - the award presenter - while La Thanh Huyen and Hong Dang (Best Actor in a TV Series) raised the awards.

Quynh Chi received the award for "Best Supporting Actress".

Additionally, shortly after the announcement of the “Best Animated Feature” award, the stage lost power. The show had to be paused for a few minutes to deal with the problem.

The Golden Kite is an annual film award of the Vietnam Cinema Association. This year, 19 films are competing, in addition to 20 television series (523 episodes in total), 13 animated films, 39 documentaries, 11 scientific films, 16 short films and 5 research works, film criticism theories.
