(Baonghean) - "Whenever I take on a task, I must be enthusiastic and work effectively to gain people's trust." This is the affirmation of Ms. Nguyen Thi Hien, who has been a population collaborator for 10 years in Hamlet 3, Ngoc Son Commune (Do Luong District).

At 45 years old, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hien has been a population collaborator for 10 consecutive years. During those years, Hamlet 3 in Ngoc Son Commune, under her responsibility, has consistently achieved the remarkable feat of having no one giving birth to a third child. Meanwhile, out of 113 households in Hamlet 3, 61 couples are of childbearing age, and 14 households have children of only one gender. This further demonstrates the impressive achievements of the people here, in which Ms. Hien has contributed significantly. When asked about her "secret" to successfully implementing the population and family planning policy, Ms. Hien humbly replied: "I don't have any secrets; it's just that when entrusted with a task by the people and superiors, I must strive my best to complete it."

To fulfill her assigned responsibilities, Ms. Hien went to each house to campaign, disseminate information, and explain clearly, meticulously, and in an easy-to-understand and memorable way. As a result, the women in the neighborhood all understood the benefits of the policies and guidelines, the advantages of participating in the women's association's work, and planned parenthood… From there, the women actively participated in and strongly supported the activities of the club established by the women's association to access much useful information for their families and the community. In 10 years as a population collaborator, the population and family planning work and child protection and care work in Hamlet 3 always met the targets. To bring the targets and activity plans of the women's association in particular, and the policies and guidelines of the Party and State in general, to the women, she constantly improved her oral communication skills by continuously enhancing her professional knowledge and gathering more knowledge from books, newspapers, and documents; She also learned from the experience of using oral communication methods through various media channels to encourage women to effectively implement population policies.

Besides excelling as a population collaborator, Ms. Hien is also the head of the Women's Association in Hamlet 3, the head of the loan group, and the deputy head of the hamlet's Fatherland Front Committee... She says, "It seems" that people elected her to do so many things because they saw her as honest and enthusiastic.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hai, from Hamlet 3, said: “From the moment I first arrived in Hamlet 3 as a daughter-in-law, I knew Ms. Hien. When I gave birth to two daughters, she was always there to encourage and support my husband and me, helping us to improve our family's mindset. Now that both children are grown, well-behaved, and studious, Ms. Hien has helped us with loans to start a business, so we have some savings. To this day, I still remember her words: ‘My dear, I know we women suffer a lot, and having only daughters is even harder. But you need to know that if you have more children, it will be a thousand times harder. I think that as long as our children are well-behaved, obedient, and good students, that is true happiness.’ For the women in Hamlet 3, Ms. Hien is truly a close friend and someone many people admire.”

Ms. Cao Thi Hai Yen, a population officer in Ngoc Son commune, commented on the important role of the long-time population collaborator: “I have been working in Ngoc Son commune for 5 years, and during that time, I have seen the dynamism and enthusiasm of Ms. Nguyen Thi Hien. She is present at all population communication activities organized by the commune and contributes very practical and effective methods. To date, Hamlet 3, which she is in charge of, has had no third births for 10 consecutive years, no social vices, and the people are united, with strong community bonds… All of this proves her contributions in her assigned position.”

Not only is she skilled professionally, but Ms. Hien is also respected by the women in her village and neighborhood for her diligence, hard work, and perseverance. She owns 7 sao (approximately 0.7 hectares) of rice paddies, and she also takes on an additional 1 sao (approximately 0.1 hectares) to grow mulberry trees and raise silkworms to increase her income. In addition, she raises 3 cows, 2 goats, and dozens of chickens. Meanwhile, her husband works as a construction worker, moving from place to place, only returning to help her for a few days during the harvest season before going back to work elsewhere to supplement the family's income. She single-handedly manages the household and raises her children. Thanks to her diligence and hard work, her family's economic situation is relatively good in the village. She says that running a business is also a way for her to effectively spread her message, because when she has a stable income, people will trust her more…
