Many mechanisms to support farmers growing vegetables for Tet
(Baonghean.vn) – Currently, farmers in Anh Son and Nghi Loc localities are focusing on taking care of winter vegetables to serve the upcoming Lunar New Year market.
These days, in the alluvial land along the Lam River in Phuc Son Commune, Anh Son, from early morning to late at night, there are always people planting, caring for, and harvesting vegetables. Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu in Hamlet 1, Phuc Son Commune shared that with 15 sao of vegetables, her family has regularly changed the types of vegetables according to market demand such as green squash, cucumber, mustard greens, scallions, kohlrabi, cabbage, and green eggplant.
Currently, some are being harvested, according to market price, green onions cost 12,000 VND/kg, mustard greens 4-5,000 VND/bunch, cucumbers 15,000 VND/kg, the family's income from growing vegetables reaches 6 million VND/sao/crop.

Mr. Nguyen The Phuong - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Phuc Son Commune said: In 2016, Phuc Son Commune, Anh Son planned 5 hectares in the lower area along the Lam River for specialized production of vegetables, of which 1 hectare was used as a safe vegetable production point. Production according to the pilot model, people were supported with 30 million VND for seeds and nitrogen fertilizer. It is estimated that the income from winter vegetables on the alluvial land brought to Phuc Son people over 120 million VND/ha.
This winter crop, Anh Son district has over 300 hectares of various vegetables and beans, an increase of 50 hectares compared to 2015, including 50 hectares on alluvial land along Lam river, concentrated in Thach Son, Phuc Son and Lang Son communes. With the motto "clean, quality, good for consumers' health", Anh Son district has also built a model of safe vegetables in Phuc Son commune.

In Nghi Loc, the 2016 winter crop in Nghi Loc district produced over 4,000 hectares, including 2,700 hectares of corn, 450 hectares of peanuts and 900 hectares of various vegetables. Currently, the crops are in the development and growth stage.
Ms. Tran Thi Vinh, Hamlet 8, Nghi Thuan Commune (Nghi Loc) shared: "This winter crop, my family planted 2 sao of chives. Previously, we planted them for food, but now we plant them for sale, so we apply balanced and proper fertilization measures, ensuring food hygiene and safety according to the instructions of the Plant Protection Station."
Currently, some localities have also proposed mechanisms to encourage farmers to develop new seedlings. For example, in Nghi Long, the Commune People's Committee has a mechanism to support 100% of new seedlings for households expanding vegetable growing areas, giving priority to households with an area of 0.5 ha or more for concentrated planting. Thanks to timely guidance, the whole commune has produced 220 ha of winter crops, achieving 100% of the plan. The Commune People's Committee actively propagates and urges people to take care of crops to increase production value per unit area, especially the 20 ha of vegetables that farmers need to take care of in time to serve the consumer market during the upcoming Lunar New Year.

Currently, the crops are in the development and growth stage. Due to this year's erratic weather, from the beginning of the season, the localities have coordinated with the Plant Protection Station and the District Agricultural Extension Station to train and transfer new science and technology, and at the same time, strengthen propaganda and guide farmers on the process of planting, caring, preventing and controlling pests and diseases.

To prepare vegetables for the Tet market, farmers in Nghi Loc district are urgently preparing the land to plant and care for more than 900 hectares of vegetables, mainly cabbage, kohlrabi, green beans, lettuce, mustard greens, cucumbers... an increase of more than 200 hectares compared to the same period last year. Nghi Loc Agricultural Extension Station has coordinated with localities and mass organizations to organize more than 50 training courses on safe vegetable production techniques. Thousands of farmers have acquired knowledge from how to select seeds, fertilize, prevent pests and diseases to harvesting to improve economic efficiency.
According to gardeners' predictions, the price of green vegetables this year may be higher, due to natural disasters and floods causing many areas to not be able to produce in time.
