For nearly a month now, three times a week, despite the scorching heat, Mr. Vi Van Quynh, from Chan village, Thach Giam town (Tuong Duong district), has been regularly attending classes to teach musical instruments to children during the summer. Photo: Dinh Tuan

Mr. Quynh is nearly 70 years old, but his love for music, especially traditional musical instruments, remains as strong as it was in his twenties. He shared: “I have been passionate about and knowledgeable in traditional musical instruments since I was a child. For me, traditional musical instruments are like blood and flesh; whenever I have free time, I play music. Playing music makes me healthier and happier. It's a pity that the younger generation isn't interested in our traditional culture. Knowing that the Youth Union of the town was organizing free musical instrument classes for children during the summer, I voluntarily registered to participate in teaching, with the sole purpose of inspiring and nurturing a passion for traditional musical instruments in the children of my hometown.” In the photo: Mr. Quynh is instructing children on playing gongs and drums. Living in Khe Ngau village, Xa Luong commune (Tuong Duong district), Mr. Luong Van Pan has to travel more than 10km to attend his music class, but he almost never misses a single session. Mr. Pan shared: “The road to class is quite far, and the weather is hot and sunny these days, so traveling is quite difficult. But when I get to class and see the children studying diligently and passionately playing traditional musical instruments, all the fatigue disappears in an instant.” (Photo: Dinh Tuan)

The artisans who teach these skills are farmers, security guards, teachers, or retired officials... Each has a different job and background, but they all share a love for the traditional culture of their nation and a desire to pass on the beautiful aspects of their national culture to the younger generation.
