Many Nghe An people illegally marry foreigners
(Baonghean.vn) - The situation of illegal marriages among Mong people in Tri Le (Que Phong) is on the rise, posing many challenges in the management of local authorities.
Pa Khom is one of 10 Mong villages in Tri Le commune, Que Phong district. In Pa Khom village, everyone knows the story of Mr. Tho Giong Mua marrying Mrs. Tho Y Denh, a native of Den Din village, Phan Thong commune, Muong Quan district (Laos). Mr. Mua said that it only takes about two hours to walk through the forest from Pa Khom village to Den Din village. Therefore, every holiday, young people from this village go to the other village to socialize, and if boys and girls like each other, they live together.
During a trip to Laos, Mr. Mua met Mrs. Tho Y Denh and they moved to Pa Khom to live together. They have now had 13 children. Tho Ba Nhenh - Mr. Mua's eldest son, also married a Laotian woman. Although they have lived in Vietnam for 3 years and have 2 children together, Tho Ba Nhenh and his wife have not registered their marriage.

Tho Ba Nhenh confided: "I went from village to village to flirt with girls, and when I met my wife, she looked very pretty. We both liked each other, so we got married and returned to Vietnam without registering our marriage. Actually, it was because we didn't know the law. This time, with the Border Guard's encouragement, my wife and I will register. I hope my wife will be granted Vietnamese citizenship to stabilize our lives..."
Like Gia Ba Cu, whose older sister got married in Laos. One time, when he went to Huoi Ngua village, Muong Quan district, Laos to visit his sister, Tho Ba Cu met and fell in love with Tho Y Di because of her shy smile... So, without registering their marriage, Y Di followed Ba Cu to Pa Khom. Up to now, this family has 2 children.
According to a survey, in Que Phong district, there are 41 couples who have married outside the border without a legal marriage, mainly concentrated in the two border communes of Tri Le and Thong Thu. What is worrying is that this is one of the causes of illegal migration among the Mong people.
Captain Mua Ba Lu - Head of the Armed Forces Team - Border Guard Station 519 said that the reason for unregistered marriages is due to awareness and long-standing customs. Border guards have gone to each household to propagate and encourage couples to register their marriages and household registration... but they still face many difficulties and barriers due to customs and practices.

Ms. Truong Thi Tuyet Mai - Vice Chairwoman of Que Phong District People's Committee is concerned that although they do not have a marriage certificate, the local government still has to provide them with all necessary documents such as household registration, health insurance card, birth certificate... for them. This has unintentionally led to a reverse process. While they have not yet been granted Vietnamese nationality, these subjects have been granted Vietnamese documents.
Therefore, the authorities need to soon have solutions to facilitate the naturalization of Vietnamese citizens by simplifying procedures, in order to help them stabilize their residence and live in peace, thereby limiting the situation of spontaneous migration.
