Previously, at the end of June 2019, through the work of grasping the situation in the area, Con Cuong District Police discovered that a number of Dan Lai ethnic women in Khe Bu village, Chau Khe commune were absent from the locality, no one knew where they went or what they were doing. The families of these women said that they had been sold to China as wives.
Verifying the above information is true, Con Cuong District Police established Project 719N to fight and clarify. The project team determined that the subject who brought these women to China is La Thi Hien.
Hien married a Chinese man and only returned to Vietnam occasionally, making it difficult to gather information. In early July 2019, Ms. LTT (born in 1992), a victim of Hien's trafficking, fled back to Vietnam and filed a complaint against Hien with the police.
Taking advantage of the time Hien returned to Vietnam to visit relatives, the District Police Department issued an emergency arrest warrant for La Thi Hien. At the investigation agency, Hien initially denied her crime, but with the evidence and documents collected by the police department, she was forced to admit her crime.
Hien confessed that around November 2016, while living in China, Hien used Facebook to contact Ms. LTT. Hien used sweet words to persuade Ms. T. to go to China to get married with the promise of a happy and leisurely life.
Hien instructed Ms. T. to hide from her relatives and take a bus to Mong Cai City, Quang Ninh Province. Then, a woman named Hung took Ms. T. across the border to China through an illegal route.
Ms. T. was sold by Hien to a Chinese man as his wife for 70,000 yuan (equivalent to 245 million VND). Hien sent 15,000 yuan to Ms. T.'s relatives, and Hien kept the rest.
Currently, the Con Cuong District Police Department is continuing to investigate and expand the case to capture the remaining subjects in the human trafficking ring as well as find and rescue the victims in this ring.
