The trend of commenting "BFF" to check the safety of Facebook accounts is actually just for entertainment or to "bait" comments and interactions on social networks.

"Please comment the word BFF below. If the word is blue, your Facebook is protected. If the word is black, your Facebook is being tracked or hacked, change your password immediately." This message is being spread widely on many fanpages, groups, and is shared by many social network users.

The trend of commenting "BFF" to check the safety of an account is spreading on Facebook.

It is true that when commenting "BFF", this text, usually black, can turn blue with a clapping effect on the screen. However, it is not a tool that Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg created to check the safety of the account as the information spread.

According toCelebritiesbuzz, in fact "BFF" is an abbreviation for "Best Friend Forever" or can also be taken from the first letters of the phrase "Best Friend on Facebook". Facebook recognizes this word to change it to blue and add effects to create a friendship symbol.

The reason why some people's comments show black text and others show blue text is because Facebook's algorithm is not updated at the same time. Because of this, many social network members believed the information spread, thinking that their account was being tracked or hacked because the word "BFF" was black while others' was blue.

Not only in Vietnam, the scam has also spread widely around the world, attracting tens of thousands of people. "The bottom line is this is a scam. Please do not share or comment," the pageCelebritiesbuzzwrite.

"This may be a form of entertainment for some people, but it is also a deliberate scam," said Phan Van Hoi, an online marketing expert. "Spreading this trend can help fanpages and Facebook accounts attract more comments, thereby increasing interactions to serve future sales or advertising."

Mr. Hoi believes that the reason this scam attracts many people is because Facebook has recently been involved in a scandal that leaked information of millions of members, so users are more concerned about their accounts. "In Vietnam, not everyone knows what 'BFF' stands for, so it spreads even faster," he said.
