Many Vietnamese drivers, especially women and new drivers, often encounter the situation where they cannot turn the steering wheel even though the engine is started. The reason is because the steering wheel is locked.

Most people who encounter this situation for the first time will panic and call for "rescue". However, this is not a bug but just a feature to help prevent the car from being stolen. Usually this error is caused by the driver still trying to turn the steering wheel even though the car is turned off.

The steering wheel will lock when the car is turned off, the power steering is not working but the driver still deliberately turns the steering wheel. This is a feature designed by the car manufacturer to prevent theft. Normally, car models with electric power steering system will have heavy steering when the engine is turned off because the engine is not running, causing the hydraulic oil pump to lose power supply.

In these cases, the steering wheel is not locked, but rather requires more force than usual to steer, so women often have difficulty steering due to "weak legs and soft arms".

Cars equipped with mechanical keys will have difficulty inserting the key into the ignition when the steering wheel is locked. Therefore, it is necessary to simultaneously insert the key into the ignition while gently shaking the steering wheel. In some cases, when the steering wheel is not parked straight and the engine is still off, the steering wheel will sometimes be locked when the key is removed.
