On the afternoon of November 25, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development held a ceremony to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Vietnam Forestry Industry's traditional day (November 28, 1959 - November 28, 2019). Attending were Mr. Hoang Nghia Hieu - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee along with departments, branches, and staff from different periods in the province's forestry industry.

Over the past 60 years, Nghe An Forestry sector has strived to successfully complete assigned political tasks. Forest area has increased steadily and stably, from 807,210 hectares with forest cover of 47.9% in 2008, to 904,642.89 hectares with forest cover of 57.2% in 2015 and by 2018 forest cover had reached 58% equivalent to the current forest area of ​​951,165.94 hectares.

The speed of forest development in Nghe An is increasing rapidly, from the planted forest area reaching only 2,700 hectares in 2000, by 2010 this number had increased to 11,500 hectares/year and in 2019 this number maintained at over 19,000 hectares. The average annual output of planted forest timber exploitation in the current period reaches 1,000,000 m³ - 1,200,000 m³ingredient.

Export turnover of wood, wood products and non-wood forest products to foreign countries increased rapidly from 30 million USD in 2010 to 211 million USD in 2018 (export of wood and wood products alone reached over 150 million USD).

Nghe An has applied 4.0 technology to the work of monitoring and updating forest resource developments, which is a major turning point in the management and operation of the forestry sector. With the software for updating forest resource developments, the time to announce the forest status will be shortened by 4 months compared to the previous method.

In addition, forest environmental services (FES) have become a bright spot in the socialization of the forestry sector and the implementation of solutions to increase the value of forests. The FES payment mechanism has created a strong change in awareness and improved the effectiveness of forest protection, contributing to job creation, income increase, and livelihood improvement for forest workers.

Total revenue from DVMTR from 2014 to 2017 reached over 285,046 million VND. The average revenue was over 71,261 million VND/year and reached 106,182 million VND in 2018.

Nghe An Forestry in the coming time sets out a number of key tasks as follows: Promote the development of forest economy in each ecological region, develop the wood processing industry and non-timber forest products in a sustainable direction, on the basis of deep integration into regional and global markets. Implement sustainable forest management, forest certification and forest governance in accordance with the law. Strive for a full coverage of 60% of the province, improve forest quality to ensure overall harmony between the needs of socio-economic development and environmental protection, biodiversity conservation, and response to climate change.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Hoang Nghia Hieu - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee praised the achievements of the forestry sector in the past time. At the same time, Mr. Hoang Nghia Hieu also proposed: In the coming time, the forestry sector will face many difficulties, so it requires the agricultural sector to determine the right direction, promote the tradition and achievements of the past 60 years to build an increasingly strong forestry sector.

Regarding their responsibilities, the Provincial People's Committee and the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development will continue to direct the sectors, Party committees and authorities at all levels, and assist and coordinate so that the forestry sector will successfully complete its tasks in the coming time.

On this occasion, authorized by the President, Mr. Hoang Nghia Hieu, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, awarded the Second Class Labor Medal to Mr. Nguyen Tien Lam, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development; awarded the Emulation Flag of the Provincial People's Committee in 2018 to Nghe An Forest Protection Sub-Department, and commended 16 individuals by the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee.
