(Baonghean.vn) - Unlike many years ago, up to this point, many vocational schools in Nghe An have run out of enrollment quotas, while there are still quite a few candidates wishing to study.

Great demand

Nearly a week after the opening day, the admissions office of Hong Lam Technical Economics College still receives many calls from parents asking for their children to enroll. While answering the phone and consulting with parents, Ms. Bui Thi Thu Ha - admissions officer of Hong Lam Technical Economics College also had to be very tactful in refusing to accept more students, because the admission list had been finalized by the Department of Education and Training, Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs in early September.

Speaking more about this, Ms. Ha said: A parent in Quynh Vinh commune (Quynh Luu) called to inquire about having her son attend our school because here he can study both culture and vocational training. Her son finished 9th grade and then went to the South to work, now he wants to go to school but it is difficult to find a suitable school. We cannot accept all of these cases because all classes have met the required quota.

In the 2023-2024 school year, Hong Lam Technical and Economic College has recruited 495 students. These are all students who have just completed junior high school and wish to continue studying both general education and vocational training. Of the students enrolled this year, more than half are students from Hoang Mai town and study right in the town. The rest are students from the whole province who come to study and mainly stay at the school. Many of these students have quite good academic performance with quite high scores on the 10th grade entrance exam.

Student Hoang Anh Vu, who lives in Hung Loc commune, Vinh city, is such a case. In the recent exam, Loc scored 19 points in the 10th grade entrance exam, enough to pass a public school in Nghi Loc district. However, instead of choosing a public school, Vu decided to participate in vocational training because, according to him, this program has many advantages: With the current program, he only has to study 7 cultural subjects and in the afternoon he can study an additional intermediate-level profession. In particular, vocational training will be free of tuition. He thinks that, with his average academic ability, this choice is suitable and he can easily get a job after graduation, shortening his study time.

In the past 5 years, the enrollment of Hong Lam Technical Economic College has not been as difficult as before. In addition to enrolling to learn a trade, students' awareness has also changed.

Although we call it a vocational school, we focus on general education with the aim of giving students with ability and determination many opportunities to enter university. Like last school year, 100% of students graduated, many students had a score of over 25 points in the 3-subject combination exam, 100% of students participating in the Provincial Excellent Student Competition were recognized as excellent students and had 2 First Prizes. More than 50% of students after graduation were admitted to university. Students with less ability were oriented to vocational training and they had jobs after graduation. Therefore, the number of students registering for vocational training is increasing day by day.

Mr. Phan Xuan Dung - Principal of the school

At Nghe An Ethnic Boarding Secondary School, the school has completed enrollment for the 2023-2024 school year with more than 550 students. Of these, only about 20% are students from Con Cuong district. The remaining enrollment area stretches from Ky Son district to Thanh Chuong district. The enrollment target is 9th grade students who have just completed secondary school.

Through the discussion, Mr. Le Van Tuan - Principal of the school said: We have 2 parallel programs for students to choose from. Therefore, currently there are about 80 students choosing the 3-year study program in conjunction with the continuing education center. With this program, after completing the program, students can take the graduation exam and get a high school diploma, and apply for admission to universities and colleges. The rest will study culture, parallel to vocational training with a study period of 2 years. After finishing the program, students can still continue to study in college.

Many opportunities for vocational school students

The Technician Scholarship Program is an annual activity organized by LG Display Company inVietnam - Korea Industrial Technical CollegeThis year, the program was held in early September with the participation of hundreds of third-year students of the school.

Sharing about this program, Mr. Le Quang Suot - Deputy Head of Recruitment Department of the company said: We chose the beginning of September to implement the scholarship program because this is the time when students start their internships. This year, we will award scholarships to about 20 students to intern at the company and commit to working for 2 years at the unit after graduation. During the internship, students will be guided and trained in techniques, paid according to regulations, and given gifts on holidays and Tet during the internship.

Before implementing this program, LG Display Company had more than 100 alumni of the Vietnam - Korea Industrial Technical College working and highly appreciated for their capacity and skills. Therefore, in the coming years, when the company continues to expand in scale, the demand for jobs is very large, especially for well-trained workers in the fields of Electricity, Electronics, Industrial Electricity, Machine Manufacturing, Automation, etc.

Although up to this point, the Vietnam - Korea Industrial Technical College has only recruited about 60% of its target, the school's principal is still optimistic about the school's enrollment results because this is just the beginning of the enrollment season. Through direct attendance at some classes, many new students of the school said that although there are many opportunities to be admitted to university, they still decide to choose a career because many professions are easy to find jobs after graduation.

Student Ha Van An - a former student of Anh Son 2 High School and just took the High School Graduation Exam with a score of 25 points in the D block. However, instead of applying for university admission, An decided to apply for the industrial electricity major and enrolled 1 month in advance. This male student also said that he did not regret not going to university. Instead, he had the opportunity to experience a new profession, being guided by teachers when only 20% of the program was theory, the rest was practice. This student also hopes that from the 2nd year, he will do an internship and be able to earn his own income to cover his living expenses.

Regarding enrollment, Mr. Ho Van Dam - Principal of the school said that although enrollment in vocational schools has its own difficulties, with its own advantages, vocational schools still attract students if they really want to study. Specifically, during the 3 years of studying at the school, interns at enterprises can be paid with a support of nearly 40 million VND. Meanwhile, the tuition fee for the entire course is only nearly 30 million VND. The fact that students personally earn money and have practical experience at enterprises will help them see the value of money.

From the business side, the internship process will show the students’ abilities and help them have many job opportunities after graduation. In addition, students at our school have many paths to work abroad, following the official path if they have the ability and ambition.

Through the recruitment of vocational schools in recent years, Mr. Hoang Sy Tuyen - Head of Vocational Training Department - Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs said that vocational training and job placement in Nghe An are on the right track. Currently, the quality and effectiveness of vocational training are being paid attention to and have many positive changes, based on the output standards of graduates. Therefore, some occupations have initially met the requirements of socio-economic development, investment attraction of the province, and the requirements of the labor market.

In addition, vocational training institutions have been more proactive in linking with businesses to create conditions for students to practice at businesses, effectively implementing training associated with job placement after training. With the rate of workers having jobs after intermediate and college training reaching over 90%, with an income of 5-7 million VND.

It is expected that the vocational school enrollment season will officially begin right after universities complete their enrollment. However, in reality, many vocational schools have finished earlier than planned, which is a positive sign that the perception of vocational training has changed in a more practical direction, to ensure early employment and stable income right after graduation./.
