Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thanh Tuan, Sales Director of iNET HCM, said that domain names play a very important role in brand recognition. At the same time, they bring potential for brand promotion, market expansion, customers, partners, etc. for businesses. Domain names have contributed significantly to the success and failure of many companies.

However, according to VNNIC data, currently, Vietnamese enterprises alone have only registered about 200,989 Vietnamese .vn domain names, in which each enterprise often registers more than one domain name. Meanwhile, the total number of enterprises in Vietnam is currently over 500,000, meaning that the proportion of enterprises with domain names or websites is still very small.

“There are still many Vietnamese companies that do not have a website or use email with a professional domain name. This has caused businesses to greatly reduce their promotional opportunities. Some businesses mainly register an international domain name and then ignore registering the national domain name .vn. In fact, many businesses have to suffer and sue for many years, wasting time and money to reclaim the domain name associated with their brand that has been registered by someone else,” Mr. Tuan stated the reality.

Mr. Tuan cited a number of lawsuits over domain names associated with the brand of enterprises. Typically, Biti's registered the domain names bitis.com.vn and bitis.com but bitis.vn was registered by another entity; the lawsuit over the domain name anz.com.vn of ANZ Bank has not been resolved for many years; domain names such as Toyota.vn, camry.vn, innova.vn are also being sued for a long time. In addition, a Vietnamese company was refused cooperation by a foreign partner because this company only registered the international domain name .com and not the national domain name .vn.

Mr. Nguyen Minh Thai, Sales Director of Mat Bao Company, added that when registering a .vn domain name, businesses enjoy many incentives compared to international domain names such as lower costs, quick queries, and protection by Vietnamese law when domain name disputes occur... Not to mention that if registering a .vn domain name, when customers go to search engines such as Google, Yahoo!, and type in the brand name of that business, the search engine will definitely give the domestic .vn domain name address first./.
