Many universities lower entrance scores regardless of candidates' abilities?

This year, the Ministry of Education and Training decided to remove the common floor score and let schools determine their own entrance thresholds. However, some schools have resorted to using less effective methods to attract candidates.

After more than 10 years of implementation, this admission season is the first time the Ministry of Education and Training has decided to remove the common floor score (minimum score threshold for university admission application), except for pedagogical groups.

According to the revised and promulgated regular admission regulations, this year the minimum requirements for candidates to apply for non-pedagogical majors include: High school graduation, no subject in the admission combination has a failing score (1 point or less). Seizing this opportunity, many schools have a policy of taking low entrance scores, "sweeping the poor", regardless of the candidates' abilities.

Although according to regulations, the Ministry requires schools to plan the threshold to ensure input quality on the last day of July 19. But at this time, many schools have proactively announced their floor scores in the enrollment plan. Some schools have lowered the "floor" to a very low level when accepting university admission applications based on high school exam results, only from graduation or only above 3 points/subject.

Specifically, Binh Duong University, the previous enrollment plan clearly stated that the minimum score for university admission application for candidates taking the 2018 National High School Exam is 10 points for all admission combinations (including 3 subjects/exams).

However, later, on April 30, also on the Ministry's admission portal, option 1 (admission based on exam results) of this school had a threshold to ensure input quality and the admission conditions were revised to: "According to the quality assurance standards prescribed by the Ministry"...

According to the Ministry's leaders, this phenomenon of schools has caused concerns about the quality of training. The Ministry of Education and Training has promptly discussed and recommended that facilities adjust this content in their enrollment plans.

In addition, although the admission regulations clearly state that new test combinations/subjects for admission must be linked to the requirements of the training sector, there are still some "strange combinations" that do not match the requirements of the training sector. For example, admission to foreign language majors does not include foreign language combinations, or technical majors only enroll students in block C...

Recently, the Prime Minister issued an official dispatch directing the Ministry of Education and Training to strictly handle and stop enrollment for training institutions that deliberately offer unscientific and inappropriate admission combinations... with the aim of increasing enrollment numbers, affecting training quality.

The representative of the Department of Higher Education (Ministry of Education and Training) affirmed that they will select schools with these negative signs to closely monitor the school's admission process; check and inspect the conditions to ensure quality, ensure output standards and employment of students after graduation...

Schools with low quality will be warned; if there are violations, they will be strictly handled according to regulations, even stopping enrollment and making it public for students and society to know for prevention./.
