Teenage gang 'steals wherever they go'

May 9, 2016 06:23

Five teenagers committed a series of robberies and fights, but because they were still young, the police did not have enough evidence to prosecute them.

On May 8, Duy Xuyen District Police (Quang Nam) prosecuted Duong Loi (16 years old), Le Van Thanh (15 years old), Diep Dinh Suu (18 years old), Le Vo Hoang Huy (17 years old), Pham Duc Binh (16 years old) and Pham Thanh Hieu (15 years old, all residing in Duy Nghia commune) for robbery. This group of young gangsters was identified as being led by Duong Loi.

“They steal everywhere they go. Many times the police caught them red-handed but could not prosecute them because they were not old enough to be held criminally responsible. This time the suspects committed organized robbery, so we have enough grounds to prosecute them,” said Colonel Pham Trung Phuong, Chief of Duy Xuyen District Police.

According to Colonel Phuong, this group of teenagers dropped out of school early, often gathered to compete and cause trouble in the area. To have money to satisfy their entertainment, they continuously stole. A few months ago, Hieu and Huy were also sent to re-education camps but did not change when they returned. "Although young, the suspects have many ways to deal with the police, claiming that they used sticks to stop people on the street not to rob but just to ask for money," said Colonel Phuong.

Before that, at around 1am on April 30, Mr. Nguyen Trong Binh (23 years old) and Mr. Phan Van Chuong were transporting shrimp from Tam Ky City to Da Nang to sell when they were blocked by 5 suspects. The group of thugs used sticks to control and robbed the victims of 2 phones and nearly 2 million VND.

Through the mobile tracking device, Binh determined that his phone was being used in Hoi An city, so he went to the city police to report the case. Upon receiving the case, Loi, Thanh and Suu were arrested at the cafe after 5 hours of committing the crime. The next day, Huy and Hieu went to the police to surrender. After the fight, Duy Xuyen district police determined that Pham Duc Binh was also involved.

This group of teenage gangsters admitted to committing two other similar crimes, one of which left the victim seriously injured.

Duy Xuyen District Police call on those who have been victims to contact the unit for work.
