A group of young people went online to buy fake documents, rented cars and pawned them to embezzle billions of dollars.

Previously, through the work of grasping the situation and reporting crimes, detectives of Team 2 of the Criminal Police Department (Nghe An Provincial Police) discovered that many owners of self-driving car businesses in Vinh city and Quynh Luu district had contracts with some subjects.car rentalthen do not return the car.

During the verification process, the Criminal Police Department has established suspects and established a special project to fight and eradicate them. By September 7, 2021, under the direct direction of the Head of the Investigation Police Agency of Nghe An Provincial Police, the Criminal Police Department organized more than 20 officers and soldiers to divide into 3 working groups to simultaneously arrest and urgently search 4 subjects in the project including: Nguyen Ba Duy (born 2004), Hoang Danh Quang (born 1998), both residing in Lang Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district (Nghe An); Dinh Trong Cong (born 1997), residing in Hong Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district (Nghe An) and Doan Anh Duc (born 1998), residing in Hung Son commune, Cao Loc district, Lang Son province. Confiscated 6 cars, 12 types of fake documents including ID cards, car registration, car driving licenses, etc.

During the investigation, the methods and criminal acts of the subjects have been clarified. Accordingly, since the end of April 2021, the above subjects discussed and agreed to commit fraud and appropriate property by going online to buy fake identity documents to rent self-driving cars. They pretended to be directors of construction enterprises, used fake documents including ID cards, driver's licenses, and then brought them to self-driving car businesses in Vinh City and Quynh Luu District to make car rental contracts.

After renting the car, the subjects continued to buy and use fake documents such as car registration, inspection certificate, all in the subjects' names to pawn and sell at pawnshops and households in Nghe An, Lang Son, Hai Duong provinces, each car the subjects sold and pawned from 200 million VND to 600 million VND.

Lieutenant Colonel Tran Duc Than -The Head of the Criminal Police Department (Nghe An Provincial Police) said: This is a criminal gang operating with sophisticated methods and a large area, causing many difficulties for the investigation. However, the unit has focused its forces to successfully fight the case, and has recovered 6 cars of various types, proving that the subjects have committed fraud and appropriated property worth more than 3 billion VND.

Currently, the Criminal Police Department is continuing to investigate and expand the case.
