According to the indictment, at about 5:30 p.m. on August 31, 2018, Huy and Tao went into the field and saw 7 buffaloes of Mr. Ha Van Quy in Cham Hieng hamlet eating rice, so they chased the buffaloes.

During the chase, Huy met Hoan, a neighbor, and asked him to help chase the buffalo. The three of them then caught a buffalo and tied it to a tree on the side of the road. At 9:00 p.m. the same day, the three of them led the buffalo to the acacia hill area, killed it, and divided the meat to bring home for use. On September 13, 2018, Huy turned himself in to the police.

The property valuation council concluded that the buffalo that was killed was worth 17 million VND. After the incident, the defendants’ families compensated the victim’s family 25 million VND. The victim’s family asked the panel of judges to reduce the defendants’ sentences.

The People's Court sentenced Luong Van Huy to 12 months in prison, Ngan Van Hoan to 11 months in prison, and Luong Van Tao to 11 months in prison, all suspended.
