Bustling Nghe An countryside market on Tet holiday

(Baonghean.vn) - Every Lunar New Year, rural markets in the localities are bustling with activity. Every family goes to the market to shop for Tet, hoping for a fulfilling Tet.

Bamboo tubes from the upper reaches of the Ro River and Giang River... used to wrap Chung cake and Tet cake are brought to the markets in Thanh Chuong district quite early. In addition to selling bamboo tubes, people also split bamboo tubes into strings to sell. Each small bundle of strings costs 5,000 - 7,000 VND. Although plastic strings are convenient, local people still prefer to use bamboo strings to wrap cakes. Many localities in Nghe An also have the custom of displaying two sugarcane stalks on the altar during Tet, so some rural markets on Tet sell a lot of sugarcane, especially purple sugarcane. People who go to the market often choose to buy a pair of sugarcane stalks with green leaves, big and long stalks with the wish for a sweet new year and good luck.
