Dr. Pham Toan Thang has made the whole world admire and respect him when he successfully produced stem cells from the umbilical cord membrane. The young man from Khanh Hoa, born in 1983, is the first Vietnamese person to be honored four times on the Wall of Honor of the Anderson Institute, the leading cancer institute in the US.
Phan Minh Liem chose to study cancer when he was a student at the Faculty of Biotechnology, University of Natural Sciences, Ho Chi Minh City. Graduating from university in 2005, Phan Minh Liem won a scholarship to the US with the desire to find ways to help patients overcome serious illnesses.

The research team led by Dr. Liem discovered a gene that can effectively inhibit and eliminate the energy-producing process of tumors. When this gene is activated, cancer cells will not be able to get nutrients or will get nutrients but cannot convert them into energy. This causes cancer cells to be destroyed or stop growing and cannot metastasize.
According to initial test results, this method is effective for many types of cancer, especially malignant and metastatic cancer cells. This method opens up a new direction for future treatment with the hope of being able to attack cancer cells effectively and precisely without affecting healthy cells much.
Since 2012, Phan Minh Liem has been a bridge to help bring leading professors from the Anderson Institute - USA to Vietnam to participate in talks and training courses to provide new knowledge about cancer for Vietnamese scientists, doctors, pharmacists, and students, opening up many opportunities for cooperation and training between the two countries.
Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thuc Quyen
Professor Nguyen Thuc Quyen is a Vietnamese-American professor, doctor, and physician. She is famous in the scientific community for her contributions to the color-coded surgical method. Her research on the method of making cancer cells glow has helped doctors easily surgically remove cancer cells from the body. She also researched solar batteries using conductive plastic.

She is currently teaching and researching at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB).
She is one of four Vietnamese scientists named in the list of the world's most influential scientists announced by Thomson Reuters (an organization that tracks and publishes knowledge information about global professional experts) in 2015.
Professor Nguyen Thuc Quyen was born in 1973 in Buon Me Thuot and moved to the United States with her family in 1991. In 1997, after graduating from university, she applied for graduate school. Within just one year, she had earned a master's degree in physical chemistry (1998).
Not stopping there, she decided to continue studying to get a PhD. In the final year of the PhD program, Nguyen Thuc Quyen was one of the 7 best PhD students to receive a scholarship. In June 2001, Nguyen Thuc Quyen received her PhD and the excellent award of the Physics-Chemistry department.
In 2004, she was an Associate Professor of Chemistry and Biology at the University of California at Santa Barbara in California. In 2011, she was promoted to the title of Professor of Science.
Professor Nguyen Thuc Quyen regularly returns to Vietnam to participate in scientific activities and contributes to connecting Vietnamese and American experts in research to serve human life.
