The historic floods and rains have left behind many damages to the villages of the mountainous commune of Tuong Duong. In the midst of all the difficulties, the image of Party cell secretaries and village chiefs “rolling up their sleeves” to go first, work first, and care for the people has become a valuable spiritual support.

Put aside personal matters and take care of the common good.

The big flood that occurred on the night of July 22 caused Thach Duong village, Tuong Duong commune to completely lose power, plunging the whole village into darkness. The flood from upstream poured in rapidly, the water rose quickly, making the head of Thach Duong village, Mr. Vi Trong Thuy, worried and uneasy.

To ensure the safety of the people, despite the rain and wind, Village Chief Vi Trong Thuy hurriedly rolled up his pants, grabbed a flashlight, knocked on every door, and urgently requested that the elderly and children be taken out of the dangerous area.

Mr. Vi Trong Thuy shared: "On the night of July 22, when the whole village lost power, starting at 9 pm, I went to mobilize people to move their belongings, bring the elderly and children to the high hills to build temporary shelters. At about 6 am the next day (July 23), I returned to find my house completely flooded. It was not until about 11 am that I was able to reach my house, all the furniture was soaked in water, covered with mud."

Talking about the "prisoner" in her village, Ms. Luong Thi Tuyet - a resident of Thach Duong village emotionally shared: "Village chief Vi Trong Thuy always worries about the people first. During the recent flood, he was the first person to be present, going door to door to persuade people to evacuate. His house was also flooded, his belongings were damaged, but he did not complain. The relief and support work was also carried out transparently and clearly by the village chief. The people trust him absolutely, considering him as a support in the most difficult times."

Not only Mr. Thuy, in Tuong Duong commune, many party cell secretaries and village chiefs have damaged houses and properties, but still choose to temporarily put aside personal matters to prioritize common work.

In recent days, they often leave their homes before dawn and return after dark to lead the way for relief teams or personally carry rice and instant noodles to each household...

Mr. Vi Duong Tien - Secretary of the Chan village Party cell, Tuong Duong commune shared: There are times when I am so tired that I just want to sit down and rest for a bit, but thinking about the people who are suffering, many houses that have been severely damaged by the flood, I cannot bear it. Since the flood receded, I have hardly had a full night's sleep. Everything is at hand, everything is taken care of: from cleaning up, supporting people to receiving and distributing relief gifts.

"We work impartially and objectively, ensuring that relief goods reach the right recipients and in the right quantity. However, in the midst of our busy work for the people, we sometimes suffer from misunderstandings. However, everyone still encourages each other to put aside personal feelings and put the interests of the community first," said Vi Duong Tien.

Bridge between peoplepeople and government

When the flood passed, the Party Committees and management boards of the blocks and villages became the core force, making an important contribution to stabilizing the situation and restoring life after the flood. They were the ones who knew the population of each house, knew each difficult household; at the same time, they were an important bridge between the Party Committees, the government and the people in receiving and distributing relief goods in a transparent and fair manner.

Comrade Nguyen Hong Tai - Chairman of Tuong Duong Commune People's Committee assessed: "Without a team of Party committee officials and management boards of blocks and villages, logistics work and mobilizing people to clean up after the flood will face countless difficulties. This team understands the people, is close to the people, and loves the people, so they do everything without hesitation."

According to comrade Nguyen Hong Tai, in the context of a commune with too few people and limited resources, the role of the household secretaries and village chiefs is like "extended arms", supporting and accompanying the Party Committee and government to help people quickly stabilize their lives after natural disasters.

Not only supporting people materially, Party cell secretaries and village chiefs also play an important role in maintaining community spirit. They persistently propagate and mobilize people not to panic and stay calm in the face of natural disasters; at the same time, arouse the spirit of solidarity, mutual love and support in each village.

Thanks to that, although many places suffered heavy damage, village and neighborhood ties were strengthened, and trust in the Party Committee and government was not diminished.
