(Baonghean.vn) - April 26, 1986 went down in human history when an accident occurred at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in Pripyat city (Ukraine), causing the worst nuclear disaster in history, 400 times more radioactive than the atomic bomb dropped by the US on Hiroshima in 1945.
Design and control errors caused an explosion so powerful that it blew off the thousand-ton roof of reactor number 4, releasing countless radioactive substances into the environment.
In a recent study, Greenpeace concluded that the Chernobyl disaster caused irreversible environmental damage and that it would take thousands of years for the city of Pripyat to be resettled.
Experts estimate that areas near the Chernobyl nuclear power plant will remain abandoned for at least another 3,000 years due to the toxic and dangerous levels of pollution there.
30 years after the disaster, few people expected that the image of the devastated house, the classroom littered with gas masks... would still exist.
The "talking" photos below will help us go back in time and understand more about the desolation of this "ghost town".

In addition to scientists who come to do research, there are many tourists who want to come here to experience the desolation and revival of Pripyat city. However, local authorities advise people to protect themselves to avoid unfortunate consequences. Photo: BBC. |
