Retired officials protect 100 hectares of upstream forest

(Baonghean.vn) - Dam Dam village, now hamlet 11, Xuan Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district, is home to many people who have been involved in the forestry industry all their lives. Now retired, they still stick to this land to contribute to the management and protection of over 100 hectares of upstream forest, combined with sustainable household development, changing the face of a rural area.

The pine forest is safely protected by families in the village and has high resin productivity.

After decades of working in the forestry industry, Mr. Phan Van Tinh retired and chose a piece of land in Dam Dam village to live. With the knowledge and experience he has accumulated, in addition to taking care of and exploiting resin on an area of ​​3 hectares of raw pine, over the past 3 years, he and his wife and children have built a model of forestry tree nursery in their home garden, providing an average of over 30,000 seedlings to the people each year, serving the work of afforestation.

Mr. Tinh also took on the role of Party cell secretary, together with the Party Committee and the hamlet committee, proposing many suitable solutions to help people develop agroforestry effectively. Along with the enthusiastic support of 10 retired forestry officers and employees in the area, people in the hamlet have developed forest capital, managed and protected forests, done a good job of forest fire prevention and control, and joined hands to protect the upstream forest area in association with economic development.

Dam Dam village used to be a desolate mountainous area with a sparse population from many places coming here to build a new economic zone. In recent years, thanks to the effective implementation of the Prime Minister's Decree on forest land allocation and Resolution 02 of the Standing Committee of the District Party Committee on economic development, VACR has opened up a new direction for the people. Families here reclaimed land, destroyed mixed gardens, and boldly changed the structure of crops and livestock for a good income.

Good protection of pine forests brings stable income to households in Dam village.

70 households in the hamlet have protected 100 hectares of raw pine trees, achieving an annual output of 75 tons of resin. Currently, the hamlet has only 2 poor households; the average income per capita is nearly 30 million VND/year. Mr. Le Van Hai - Chairman of Xuan Thanh commune said: Dam Dam village is an area included in the district's project on developing spiritual and ecological tourism in Gam Ru, so this is an area expected to develop more dynamically in the future.
