(Baonghean)With the motto of selecting the right beneficiaries and ensuring transparency in all types of funds, the Fatherland Front of Nam Dan district has done a good job in mobilizing people to build "Great Solidarity" houses for the poor. This Tet holiday, 133 poor households in Nam Dan will be able to celebrate Tet and welcome the Spring in spacious houses, filled with the warmth of community spirit...
In the newly built house, constructed with support from the Fatherland Front's "Great Solidarity" housing program, Mr. Bui Van Hien, a family member of a fallen soldier in Hamlet 6, Nam Loc, said: "At over 70 years old, I finally get to live in a sturdy house, free from worries. Before, my wife and I lived in a dilapidated, single-story house, constantly facing the changing weather in both winter and summer..." Mr. Hien's family is one of the poorest households in the commune. He and his wife relied on each other in their old house, built in 1969. Their second son, Bui Van Kim, died while performing a noble international duty in Cambodia, and their youngest son is congenitally deaf. Their difficult economic situation meant they couldn't rely on each other for support. Their life was hard, lacking necessities, and their old age and frail health made rebuilding their house a distant dream.
In 2012, Mr. and Mrs. Hien's family received 30 million VND in support to build a solidarity house. Besides the contributions from their children and relatives, the Front Committee of Hamlet 6 also mobilized neighbors to contribute labor and resources to help the couple. Some contributed a few thousand dong, others a few hundred thousand dong; some offered to transport sand and gravel for free, others helped install the electrical system, and still others transported roof tiles... Thanks to the collective efforts of the entire community, after two months of construction, Mr. Hien's family completed their 70m2 single-story house, with a total value of over 150 million dong. "I really can't believe we finished the house in time for the Lunar New Year of the Snake. Perhaps this year will be the warmest New Year for my family," Mrs. Le Thi Ngoc, Mr. Hien's wife, shared emotionally.
Nam Loc is a locality where 93.7% of the population are Catholic, with a high poverty rate (over 14%), and many households in particularly difficult circumstances need support. The Fatherland Front of the commune has mobilized all resources and called for contributions from the people to support poor households in building houses. Mr. Cao Ngoc Lien, Vice Chairman of the Fatherland Front of Nam Loc commune, said: “For about 10 years, the commune has supported 40 poor households in building "Great Solidarity" houses, with 4 households supported in 2012 alone. In addition to funds from higher levels, the locality also mobilized people to contribute and support each household with an additional 3-5 million VND, and in the hamlets, they also called for additional support in terms of labor and materials. The families who received support to build or renovate their houses are very happy and excited, because it will help their family economy gradually recover and rise out of poverty.”
With the motto "selecting the right beneficiaries, providing effective support," the Fatherland Front of Nam Dan district has successfully fulfilled its role in mobilizing people to support the Fund for the Poor. From this fund, support has been provided for the construction and repair of "Great Solidarity" houses for many poor and near-poor households with particularly difficult circumstances.
In 2012, the entire district mobilized over 1.4 billion VND (reaching 227% of the planned target), supporting 133 poor households in building new and repairing solidarity houses. Speaking about the experience of mobilizing the Fund for the Poor in the district, Mr. Le Van Thanh, Vice Chairman of the Fatherland Front of Nam Dan district, shared: In 2012, the Fatherland Front of the district mobilized nearly 600 million VND through this channel. Importantly, the spending of this fund must be for the right purpose, for the right beneficiaries, and ensure transparency to build trust among supporters. In addition, the Fatherland Front of the district directed its member organizations to implement many creative approaches to mobilize support from collectives and individuals to participate in building and repairing houses for the poor, near-poor, and those with particularly difficult circumstances. Typical examples include the Women's Union's campaign to build and repair houses for needy families; and the Red Cross Society's humanitarian house building movement. The trade union has a program called "Trade Union Shelter"...
A warm and happy new spring is approaching. Joy multiplies in these homes built with compassion as the Party, the State, local authorities, and the community work together to help and share, alleviating the hardships and worries of families still facing housing difficulties.
