On September 23, 2017, Ms. Lo Thi To Tam (born in 1987, Nghe An), a social and cultural civil servant of Chau Thon commune (Que Phong district, Nghe An), suddenly wrote a resignation letter, giving up her civil service to return to doing business on social networks.
According to Ms. Tam, in 2015, because the work location was nearly 20km away from home on a mountain road, the work was difficult, stressful, uninteresting, and the salary was only enough to cover living expenses, Tam decided to quit her job.
“Before, when I was still in school, I wanted to be a normal, contented civil servant. But after graduating, applying for a job, and getting married, I found that the income from being a civil servant was limited. At this time, my business was progressing well, and I wanted to expand my business network to Dong Nai and Saigon, so I wrote a resignation letter, although it was very difficult to come to the final decision,” Tam added.

In mid-March 2017, Lam Dong newspaper reported that Master Le Quoc Duc (30 years old, living in Da Lat city) was working stably in a state agency but decided to quit his job to grow hydroponic vegetables for visitors.
Although he has no experience in growing vegetables, Mr. Duc still persevered to build his hydroponic vegetable growing area of about 1,500 square meters, to complete the greenhouse for growing vegetables, the total investment cost so far is more than 1 billion VND. For individual customers who come to the garden to buy vegetables, Mr. Duc sells them for 40,000 VND/kg.
In the future, the young master will continue to invest in growing watercress, hydroponic spinach... and expand the area, grow strawberries to serve customers. "For now, I will still let tourists visit for free, later when I expand the farm, I will consider the next option. As long as I introduce domestic and foreign tourists to the super clean vegetable growing model of Da Lat and provide consumers with the safest products, that's all that matters" - Duc confided.

After 10 years of teaching with a mere income of 3.6 million VND/month, teacher Nguyen Quang Tue (Quang Binh) - an art teacher at Thanh Thuy Primary School (Quang Binh) submitted his resignation.

I respectfully request that the Board of Directors and the School’s Trade Union Executive Committee allow me to resign so that I can find a new job that ensures my personal and family income.”

Mr. Nguyen Nhu Hoang said that he has worked for the government for 11 years. During that time, Mr. Hoang always tried to complete his tasks. “However, with a salary of 4 million VND/month, life is difficult. The low salary makes me lose my enthusiasm to contribute and work,” Mr. Hoang said.

Mr. Tran Huu Thanh, Chief of Police of Cam Trung Commune, Cam Xuyen (Ha Tinh) said that in the 5 years he held the position of Chief of Police of Cam Trung Commune (2012 - 2017), his monthly income after deducting insurance was only 3.1 million VND, not enough to cover tuition fees for his two children who are still in school. Meanwhile, the work of the Chief of Police of the Commune is very much and always under pressure.
“In addition to the work at the headquarters, I and the police officers also have to patrol to ensure security and order, participate in handling traffic accidents… Almost every day I leave early and come home late, so our relationship has cracked. My wife could not bear it anymore and recently filed for divorce. Under pressure from many sides, I wrote a resignation letter,” Mr. Thanh shared.
According to Mr. Thanh, after quitting his job, he will go to the South to work for hire, possibly as a truck driver because he currently has a class C driver's license, or apply to be a bodyguard for a company.

In early 2016, at the People's Committee of Quang Cu commune (Sam Son town, Thanh Hoa), Mr. Le Van Binh (born in 1982), a contract officer in the Construction Order Management Team for 4 years, with a salary of 2,000,000 VND/month. In early 2017, Mr. Binh submitted a resignation letter to work freelance.
In April 2017, Mr. Pham Van Sau (born in 1987), graduated from University, was recruited as a civil servant in 2011, worked as an officer of the Statistics Office in Quang Cu commune, also suddenly wrote a resignation letter to go out to work for another job with the reason being that his health was not good.
At the People's Committee of Truong Son Ward (Thanh Hoa), population officer Ms. Nguyen Hue Linh also quit her job to go to Hanoi to work part-time at a clinic.
Most of the leaders and officials working in state agencies have left their civil service positions to work in other fields to increase their income. Those who have left their civil service positions all share their sadness because “state salaries are too low to live on”./.
