March 11, 1917,In Russia, a "February Revolution" broke out, overthrowing the autocratic rule of the Tsar, but two governments coexisted. One was the Provisional Government of the bourgeoisie and landlords, the other was the Soviet of workers' and soldiers' representatives of the masses.

April 16, 1917, Lenin returned from abroad to Petrograd (the capital of Russia at that time). Here, he presented the April Theses, a programmatic document that outlined the path to victory for the socialist revolution with the slogan "All power to the Soviets!".
July 16, 1917, thousands of workers and soldiers held a massive demonstration. The provisional government violently suppressed the demonstration in an attempt to end the coexistence of two governments.
Faced with that situation, Lenin withdrew into secret activities in an area in Finland, 34 km from Petrograd to avoid being hunted down by the Provisional Government. From his secret place of operation, Lenin regularly directed the Russian revolutionary movement. He pointed out that the period of peaceful struggle had ended, and revolutionary forces in Russia had to actively prepare to carry out an armed uprising to seize power.

October 24, 1917The Provisional Government arrested members of the Military Revolutionary Committee, searched and closed down Bolshevik Party newspapers, ordered the occupation of the Winter Palace (Smolny Palace)... Prime Minister of the Provisional Government Kerenski declared that he would take all measures to destroy the uprising in Petrograd.

After the October Revolution, Lenin and the Russian Bolshevik Party focused special efforts on the issue of consolidating the Soviet government, building a new social regime, and bringing a better life to the masses. The Decree on Peace and the Decree on Land, issued immediately after the successful revolution, met the "wish" of the Russian working people for a life of peace, freedom, and happiness.
