Impressive moments at the 2018 Winter Olympics
Winter sports are famous for their beautiful yet dangerous moves from the athletes.
Russian skier Ernest Yahin competes in the Nordic ski medley. Although he only finished 38th in the regular hill and 35th in the big hill, participating in the 2018 Olympics was a valuable experience for the 27-year-old athlete, especially when he had to compete as an independent because the Russian team was banned from the Olympics.
Robert Franco (Mexico) competes in the slopestyle freestyle qualifying round.
The South Korean coach encourages his players during the men's pursuit speed skating quarter-finals. The South Korean team won a silver medal in this event after losing to Norway in the final.
South Korea goalkeeper Matt Dalton dives to block a shot from Switzerland during an ice hockey match. South Korea’s ice hockey team includes several Canadian-born players, Dalton being one of them. Despite the influx of foreign players, South Korea finished bottom of Group A and lost to Finland in the playoffs.
American Mikaela Shiffrin competes in the women's slalom event of alpine skiing. Shiffrin won gold at the 2014 Sochi Olympics but could not defend her title, finishing fourth this year.
Bruno Massot and Aliona Savchenko (Germany) show their joy after completing the figure skating competition. Their excellent performance helped them win the gold medal in the mixed doubles event.
Canada's Mikael Kingsbury wins gold in the men's mogul freestyle event. Kingsbury, 25, won silver at the 2014 Sochi Olympics and won this time, contributing to Canada's third-place finish.
Japan's Miyabi Onitsuka competes in the big air qualifying round of snowboarding. Onitsuka is only 19 years old. She competed in two events, finishing 8th in big air and 19th in slopestyle.
North Korean cheerleaders support the unified North-South Korean ice hockey team against Japan. This is the first time that athletes from North and South Korea have competed together at a sporting event. North Korea sent a large cheering squad to PyeongChang and many were surprised to see them cheering for the South Korean athletes.
Sandra Robatscher (Italy) competed in the women's singles in the supine figure skating event. Robatscher only finished 14th and could not bring home a medal for the Italian sports delegation.
Adam Rippon (USA) competes in the men's singles figure skating event. Rippon is one of two members of the US team who have come out as gay. He finished 10th in the men's doubles event but helped the US win a bronze medal in the team event.
Johannes Hosflot Klaebo (Norway) poses with volunteers at the 2018 Olympics. Klaebo is only 21 years old but has made a big splash by bringing home three gold medals for Canada in the individual sprint, 4x10km relay and team sprint. He also attracts attention for his handsome appearance.
American athlete Shaun White celebrates with fans after winning the snowboard halfpipe event. This is a historic victory, making White the most successful athlete in snowboarding with three gold medals in the halfpipe event.
Kamil Stoch (Poland) is carried by his teammates after winning the gold medal in the large hill event of ski jumping. Unable to defend the gold medal in the individual normal hill event, Stoch is determined to defend the gold medal in the remaining event he won at the 2014 Olympics. This is Poland's only gold medal to date.
