To combat insomnia, traditional medicine offers many methods such as taking herbal medicine, acupuncture, massage, practicing Qigong, and especially using dishes and medicinal recipes made from flowers to treat insomnia.

The following are some remedies for insomnia using flowers for your reference.

* Fresh roses50g rose petals (or 15g if dried), 500g pork or goat heart, 50g fine salt, seasonings to taste. Put rose petals and fine salt into a pot, add water and simmer for 10 minutes, then let cool. Wash the pork or goat heart, cut into pieces, drain, then dip it into the rose water several times, grilling it over charcoal or in an oven until cooked through. Serve hot.

Uses: Soothes the liver and relieves stagnation, nourishes the heart and calms the nerves; very effective for insomnia caused by deficiency of heart blood.

* Rose12g of Albizia julibrissin flowers, 10g of Albizia julibrissin flowers. Soak both in water for 10 minutes, then decoct and drink warm before going to bed. Uses: Relieves depression, regulates qi, calms the nerves.

* White plum blossoms5g of Albizia julibrissin flowers, 10g of Albizia julibrissin flowers, and 50ml of wine. Combine all three ingredients in a double boiler and drink warm 60 minutes after dinner. Uses: Soothes the liver, relieves stagnation, regulates qi, and calms the mind. Used for insomnia accompanied by headache, dizziness, and memory loss.

* Albizia50g of herbs, 100g of honey, and 300ml of white wine. Put all three ingredients into a sealed container and let it soak for 7 days. It's ready to use; drink 10-20ml each night before bed. Uses: Relieves stagnation, regulates qi, calms the nerves, and promotes blood circulation.

* Lily20g of herbs, 50ml of wine. Boil these two ingredients in a double boiler and drink warm once in the evening. Uses: Moisturizes the lungs, clears heat, calms the nerves; used for insomnia accompanied by hot hands and feet, chest and abdominal discomfort, constipation, night sweats, etc.

* Daylily30g of daylily flowers, 15g of rock sugar. Wash and finely chop the daylily flowers, put them in a pot, add water and simmer for 15 minutes. When ready, dissolve the rock sugar in the decoction and drink it in the evening before going to bed. Uses: Clears heat, relieves restlessness, calms the nerves and reduces anxiety.

* Albizia15g of Albizia julibrissin flowers, 20g of lily bulbs, 60g of rice. Wash the Albizia julibrissin flowers thoroughly, decoct them well, strain the liquid, discard the residue, add the rice and simmer until it becomes porridge. When almost cooked, add the lily bulbs. Eat in the evening. Uses: Clears the heart and moistens the lungs, relieves depression and calms the nerves; used for insomnia caused by weakness of the heart and spleen.

* Lily60g of Albizia julibrissin flowers, 60g of Albizia julibrissin flowers. Both are dried and ground into a powder. Every night before going to bed, take 6g with wine. Uses: Clears heat, moistens the lungs, relieves depression, and calms the mind.

* Fresh chrysanthemums30g, 300g chicken meat, 20g peas, vegetable oil, egg white, broth, wine, fresh ginger, and seasonings to taste.

Simmer chrysanthemum flowers to extract the liquid, discarding the solids; wash the chicken, remove the tendons, and julienne it. Mix well with egg whites and a little flour. Heat vegetable oil in a pan until very hot, then add the chicken and stir-fry until the meat is cooked through. Sauté onions and garlic until fragrant, then add the chrysanthemum liquid, chicken, julienned fresh ginger, and a little wine. Simmer for a few minutes, then serve hot.

Uses: Clears the liver and improves eyesight, dispels wind and calms the nerves; used for insomnia accompanied by headache, eye strain, impaired vision, and high blood pressure.

* Lily30g fresh pork, 250g tofu, 100g pork blood, 15g sesame seeds, 15g crushed garlic, 2g peppercorns, broth and seasonings to taste.

Wash the lily flowers, trim the petals, blanch them in boiling water, then remove and soak in cold water for about an hour; boil the tofu and pig's blood, then cut into pieces; bring the broth to a boil, then add the lily flowers, tofu, pig's blood, sesame seeds, and crushed garlic. Season with spices, simmer over low heat for a short while, and serve as a daily soup. Uses: Nourishes the heart and blood, clears the lungs and calms the nerves.

* Chrysanthemum60g of Albizia julibrissin flowers, 15g of Albizia julibrissin flowers, 30g of Ganoderma lucidum mushrooms, 30g of Thuja orientalis seeds, and 30g of Ziziphus jujuba seeds. Wash all ingredients thoroughly, decoct for 90 minutes, and divide into several doses to be taken throughout the day.

Uses: Nourishes the blood and liver, calms the mind and soothes the nerves. Used for insomnia due to yin deficiency and excessive heat, manifested by symptoms such as hot flashes, hot palms and soles, chest and abdominal discomfort, dizziness, blurred vision, frequent nightmares, night sweats, constipation, scanty and reddish urine...

* Lily25g fresh lily flowers, 2 crucian carp (500g), vegetable oil, fresh ginger, wine, and seasonings to taste. Trim the lily petals and wash them; clean the crucian carp, remove the internal organs; heat vegetable oil in a pan until very hot, then fry the crucian carp briefly. Add enough water, lily flowers, and seasonings, then simmer over low heat until cooked. Serve hot. Uses: Strengthens the spleen and replenishes qi, calms the heart and soothes the mind.

* Jasmine16g of calamus root, 6g of calamus rhizome, 10g of green tea. Steep all ingredients in boiling water in a sealed container for about 20 minutes, then it's ready to drink. Drink it throughout the day instead of tea. Uses: Strengthens the spleen and replenishes qi, calms the mind and soothes the nerves.

* Banana blossom30g of herbs, 1 pig heart. Wash and finely chop the banana blossoms. Wash the pig heart, cut it into quarters, and simmer both in a pot for 30 minutes. Then remove the herbs, eat the pig heart, and drink the broth. Uses: Calms the liver, reduces rebellious qi, nourishes qi, soothes the mind, and promotes tranquility.

* HoneysuckleWash thoroughly, then stir-fry with pig's heart and kidneys, or cook in a soup with lean meat and eat daily.
