Basic mistakes that new drivers often make
Forgetting to pull the handbrake, turn on the turn signal, put in the wrong gear… are basic mistakes that new drivers often make when driving.
1. Forget to pull the handbrake, adjust the rearview mirror, and seat
For those who have been driving for a long time, these steps are very basic when they first get in the car. However, for new drivers, they are often "forgotten" because they are not used to it and are too focused on controlling the car, the clutch, and the accelerator.

In addition, forgetting to adjust the seat and rearview mirror will cause the driver to not have a good sitting position and observation. It is easy to create large blind spots and make it difficult to control the vehicle in emergency situations. And this will be very dangerous when traveling on the street.
So when you first get in the car, create a calm style for yourself and get into the habit of doing the steps in order: adjust the driver's seat, adjust the mirrors, fasten the seat belt, lower the handbrake... then let the car move.
2. Wrong number
For those who are new to driving (especially manual transmission cars), it is very easy to put the wrong gear because they do not have a clear sense of the gear levels and gear positions. This will cause the car to suddenly stall or lose control, causing unfortunate accidents.
Therefore, for new drivers using manual transmission cars, we should get into the habit of glancing at the gear (2 seconds) before changing gears.
3. Mistaking the gas pedal for the brake pedal
This is a mistake that many new drivers make (especially with automatic cars). Due to an unstable mentality, bad sitting posture, or forgetting to change gears when stopping the car… when encountering a situation that requires quick handling, they mistakenly press the brake instead of the accelerator.
This is a very dangerous and serious error. In fact, many accidents have occurred due to this error.
Therefore, to avoid this error, drivers should get used to operating the brake pedal and accelerator pedal before starting the car. Adjust the sitting position to be comfortable before driving. At the same time, when driving, the heel must always be placed close to the floor of the car, creating a comfortable foot position to be able to switch between the accelerator and brake in a V shape. When not accelerating, the foot should be placed loosely on the brake pedal.
4. Forgetting to use the turn signal when changing lanes or turning around
This is a mistake that many people think no one will make. However, in reality, many new drivers have encountered it.
Because they are too focused on looking ahead, steering the wheel… new drivers often forget to use the turn signal or suddenly turn it on when they want to change lanes or turn around. This is not only dangerous for themselves but also for other road users because they cannot predict the situation.
Therefore, before changing lanes or turning around, drivers should remember to turn on their turn signals, drive slowly and look carefully to both sides to avoid unfortunate accidents.
5. Forgetting to turn off the lights, air conditioner, and roll up the windows when leaving the car
This is a common mistake among new drivers. It is very simple but many new drivers often forget to turn off the headlights, interior lights, air conditioning, and roll up the windows when leaving the car.
In this case, if we leave the car for a long time, the battery will be drained due to forgetting to turn off the lights or air conditioner. If we forget to roll up the windows, it is easy for dust, rainwater, insects, and mice to get into the car and damage the interior.
So, before leaving your car, get into the habit of looking at the car before you walk away to avoid these simple mistakes.
