In an interview with Qatari newspaper Al Jazeera, Mr. Nazif Karaman - Chief Investigator of Turkish newspaper Daily Sabah, revealed some details from the tape that is said to be evidence of the murder of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi inside the Saudi Arabian Consulate in Istanbul.
"I'm suffocating... Take this bag off my head, I feel suffocated" - these were the last words of journalist Khashoggi, Mr. Karaman said.
The Turkish journalist believes that Mr. Khashoggi was suffocated by a plastic bag placed over his head. According to the shared video, the killing lasted about 7 minutes. Mr. Karaman later confirmed that a group of 15 people, suspected to be Saudi intelligence officers, flew to Istanbul a day before Khashoggi's murder and took 15 minutes to dismember the journalist after suffocating him.
Journalist Karaman's shocking revelation came shortly after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that Ankara had shared recordings related to the incident with Saudi Arabia, the US, Germany, France and the UK.
In a related development, on November 10, US President Donald Trump and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron agreed that Saudi Arabian authorities must shed full light on the death of journalist Khashoggi. According to a source from the French President’s Office, the two leaders also said that the parties involved should not let the incident further destabilize the situation in the Middle East. The two leaders said that this issue could create an opportunity for a political solution to the conflict in Yemen.
