The most severely punished motorcyclists in Vietnam
Motorcyclists are fined 3-4 million for speeding over 20 km/h, but that is still not the highest fine.
Similar to cars, the new Decree 46/2016 replacing Decree 171/2013 and Decree 107/2014 also has amendments to the fines for motorbikes. One small amendment is that those using audio devices, mobile phones, or umbrellas while driving a motorbike will be fined 100,000-200,000 VND, instead of the previous 60,000-80,000 VND.
For motorcyclists, the lowest fine is 60,000-80,000 VND for violations such as not obeying traffic signs and road markings, the most expensive is 5-7 million VND for letting go of both hands, weaving, swerving, racing, and wheelies. However, if these violations cause an accident or do not obey the order to stop, the fine will double to 10-14 million VND.
In addition to fines, motorcyclists who commit violations may have their driving licenses revoked for a period of time depending on the case. Below are the traffic violations for motorbikes that require the highest fines, ranging from 1 million VND or more.
