The most fuel-efficient cars in the segment
The car with the least power isn't necessarily the most fuel-efficient. A car's fuel economy depends on a variety of factors.
Although gasoline prices have decreased significantly compared to a few months ago, choosing a car with optimal fuel consumption is still a criterion set by many car buyers, especially service customers.
Many car models in the same segment have different fuel consumption levels, which comes from many factors such as technology, mass, and algorithms programmed by the manufacturer.
Below are the models with the lowest combined fuel consumption in each segment.
A-Class Car: Hyundai Grand i10
Toyota Wigo used to be the most fuel-efficient A-segment car, however, the Japanese car company discontinued Wigo due to unsatisfactory sales. Currently, the title of most fuel-efficient A-segment car belongs to Hyundai Grand i10.
The Grand i10 manual version has a combined fuel consumption of 5.4 l/100 km, the automatic version is slightly better at 6 l/100 km. The only competitor in the segment is the Kia Morning, which consumes 5.82 l/100 km of fuel when running on mixed roads.

Hyundai equips the Grand i10 with a 1.2L Kappa engine, the 1.0L option on the old generation has been removed. The 1.2L Kappa engine produces 83 horsepower at 6,000 rpm, maximum torque of 114 Nm at 4,000 rpm. The manual version uses a 5MT gearbox, while the automatic version uses a 4AT.
Hyundai Grand i10 is the only car on the market that has both sedan and hatchback variants. The sedan variant's price ranges from 380 million VND to 455 million VND. The hatchback variant starts at 360 million VND and goes up to 435 million VND.
B-Class Sedan: Mazda 2
Although not the most popular model in the segment, Mazda 2 is a worthy choice for users looking for a B-class urban sedan with low fuel consumption.
Mazda 2 runs on mixed roads at 4.76 l/100 km, lower than Mitsubishi Attrage (from 4.9 l/100 km), Toyota Vios (from 5.78 l/100 km). Nissan Almera runs at 4.5 l/100 km on the highway, but the average parameters are still inferior to Mazda 2. Meanwhile, Honda City with its sporty driving style is unlikely to be as economical as its competitors.
It can be seen that the car model from Japan is more economical than products in the A-segment.

The car uses a 1.5L SkyActiv-G engine, producing 109 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and maximum torque of 141 Nm at 4,000 rpm. The car only has a 6-speed automatic transmission on all versions.
The starting price of Mazda 2 is 479 million VND for the AT version, the Luxury and Premium versions are priced at 559 million and 599 million VND respectively. The price of Mazda 2 is higher than competitors such as Attrage (380-490 million VND) or Toyota Vios (489-592 million VND). This model is only cheaper than Honda City (529-604 million VND).
7-seat MPV: Suzuki Ertiga Hybrid
This is the first and only model in the MPV segment with a hybrid engine. This gives it an advantage over competitors such as the Mitsubishi Xpander or Toyota Veloz in terms of fuel economy.
Similar to other car models, the manual version of Ertiga Hybrid is more economical than the automatic version. Specifically, Ertiga Hybrid MT reaches 5.38 l/100 km, AT version is 5.69 l/100 km. Other competitors have combined fuel consumption of over 6 l/100 km, such as Toyota Veloz Cross (6.3 l/100 km), Mitsusbishi Xpander (6.9 l/100 km)...

Ertiga Hybrid still uses the same 1.5L engine as the previous generation, however, with the additional assistance of the ISG system. This engine block produces 104.7 horsepower, maximum torque of 138 Nm. The electric motor on Ertiga Hybrid only works when climbing a slope or carrying heavy loads, with a maximum support time of about 30 seconds each time.
Suzuki Vietnam distributes Ertiga Hybrid with 3 versions, including a manual transmission version. The selling price of this MPV model ranges from 539-678 million VND, not too different from Toyota Veloz Cross (648-688 million VND), Mitsubishi Xpander (555-688 million VND) or Suzuki XL7 (599.9-639.9 million VND).
Urban SUV: Toyota Corolla Cross
Corolla Cross can be considered the "leader" of the hybrid car market under 1 billion VND in Vietnam. This model has many versions, of which the highest version is equipped with an internal combustion engine and an electric motor.
Toyota Corolla Cross 1.8 HEV consumes 4.6 l/100 km of gasoline on mixed roads, lower than even A-class urban cars. The two lower versions do not have hybrid support, so fuel consumption is higher, reaching 7 l/100 km and 7.6 l/100 km for the 1.8V and 1.8G versions, respectively.

The "heart" of the Corolla Cross 1.8 HEV is a 1.8L gasoline engine (97 horsepower, 142 Nm torque) and an electric motor (72 horsepower, 163 Nm torque). The remaining versions still use the 1.8L engine but the capacity reaches 138 horsepower, maximum torque of 172 Nm.
The price of Toyota Corolla Cross starts from 746 million VND, the highest is 936 million VND. Although the selling price is higher than competitors such as Kia Seltos (639-759 million VND), Mazda CX-3 (669-799 million VND) or Hyundai Creta (620-730 million VND), Toyota Corolla Cross's sales are still leading the segment with more than 13,300 vehicles in the first 8 months of this year.
Sedan over 1 billion VND: Toyota Camry
This is another Toyota model that appears on the list. Similar to the Corolla Cross, the latest generation Camry in Vietnam is also equipped with hybrid technology in the highest version.
Camry 2.5HV consumes 4.4 liters of gasoline per 100 km on mixed roads. This figure fluctuates between 6.3-7 l/100 km for the remaining 3 versions without hybrid technology.

Toyota Camry 2.5HV uses a 2.5L gasoline engine coded A25A-FXS combined with an electric motor. The gasoline engine block on Camry 2.5HV produces 176 horsepower, maximum torque of 221 Nm, the electric motor produces 88 horsepower and 202 Nm. The remaining versions use a 2.5L gasoline engine (A25A-FKS) and a 2.0L gasoline engine (M20A-FKS).
This D-class sedan has a starting price of 1.07 billion VND (2.0G), the highest version 2.5HV costs 1.46 billion VND. In the first 8 months of the year, Toyota sold 3,221 Camry cars, 462 cars lower than VinFast Lux A2.0 (3,683 cars).
