Comrade Lê Hồng Phong, whose real name was Lê Huy Doãn, was born in 1902 in Hưng Thông commune (Hưng Nguyên district) and died on September 6, 1942. His father was Lê Huy Quán, and his mother was Phan Thị San. Lê Huy Doãn was born and raised in a region deeply marked by the history of patriotism and indomitable heroism in the struggle against oppression and foreign invasion throughout thousands of years. These historical traditions profoundly influenced his character, aspirations, and path of development and growth. As he grew up, he worked as a clerk for a trading company, then as a worker at the Vinh Match Factory. It was there that he became enlightened about the revolution and mobilized people to fight against the bosses and overseers by gathering people to demand basic daily rights.

Key milestones in his revolutionary life: In January 1924, Le Hong Phong and his comrade Pham Hong Thai went to Thailand, then to China to seek a way to save the country, joining the Tan Viet Youth Group (Tam Tam Society). In 1924, Le Hong Phong studied at the Whampoa Military Academy, under the guidance of his comrade Nguyen Ai Quoc.

In February 1926, he joined the Chinese Communist Party. In 1926, he graduated from the Whampoa Military Academy. From October 1926 to October 1927, he studied at the Military Theory School in Leningrad (Soviet Union). From December 1927 to November 1928, he studied at the 2nd Air Force School in Borisoglebsk (Soviet Union). From December 1928, he studied at the Eastern Communist University of the Communist International in Moscow under the pseudonym Litvinov. After graduating, he joined the Soviet Red Army and was the first Vietnamese air force soldier.

In late 1931, under the name Vuong Nhat Dan, he returned to China to continue his activities. In 1932, Le Hong Phong sought to contact the Party organization in Vietnam to revive the movement. In 1934, the Party's Overseas Command was established in Macau, with Le Hong Phong as its secretary. On June 14, 1934, a meeting of the Party's Overseas Command and representatives from domestic Party branches was convened to discuss plans for convening the Party's First Congress. In March 1935, at the Party's First Congress in Macau, he was elected General Secretary of the Party.

In 1934, he led the Party delegation to the 7th Congress of the Communist International in Moscow (Soviet Union). The Congress recognized the Party as an official branch of the Communist International and elected Comrade Le Hong Phong as a member of the Executive Committee of the Communist International. In January 1936, he went to China. On November 10, 1937, under the name La Anh, Comrade Le Hong Phong returned to Vietnam to continue his activities. In March 1938, he attended the Central Committee meeting in Hoc Mon (Gia Dinh) which decided to establish the "Indochinese Democratic Front". On June 22, 1939, Comrade Le Hong Phong was arrested for the first time in Saigon and sentenced to 6 months in prison. On January 25, 1940, he was arrested a second time, sentenced to 5 years in prison, and exiled to Con Dao Island. On September 6, 1942, Comrade Le Hong Phong died in Con Dao prison.
