In which schools adjust to increase enrollment quotas for majors that are forecast to have high human resource demand in the future.
In 2017, the Ministry of Education and Training issued a document allowing the application of a special mechanism in training human resources in the information technology and tourism sectors to meet the immediate needs of the labor market. On this basis, in the plan to determine enrollment targets for 2018, a number of schools opened new majors and increased quotas in this field.
According to Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Minh Ha, Vice Principal of Ho Chi Minh City Open University, this year the school will open an information technology major. In addition, the quota for majors related to this field will be increased, such as computer science, management information systems, etc.
Master Pham Thai Son, Deputy Director of the Center for Admissions and Business Relations of Ho Chi Minh City University of Food Industry, said that based on the employment survey and human resource forecast, the school will adjust the quotas for each major accordingly. In particular, the mechanical engineering, electronics and information technology majors will continue to increase their quotas due to high demand at present and in the future.
Meanwhile, Dr. Pham Tan Ha, Vice Principal of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Ho Chi Minh City, said: “The school will increase the quota for the hottest human resource majors such as tourism, Japanese studies, and Korean studies”. On the contrary, majors with lower employability or not enough quota will be gradually reduced.
Dr. Tran Thien Luu, Head of Training Department of Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport, said that the total enrollment target of the school remains unchanged but there are many internal changes between majors.
Specifically, the school reduced the quota for 7 majors and specialties including: transport economics, telecommunications electronics engineering, computer networks and data communications (each major reduced by 10 quotas). Mechanical engineering and marine engineering (each major reduced by 20 quotas), control and automation engineering (reduced by 30), traffic construction engineering (reduced by 40). The school increased the quota for majors with high demand: transport exploitation (60 quotas), construction economics (20), maritime science specializing in maritime management (40)...
Ho Chi Minh City University of Technical Education has reduced enrollment quotas for majors such as accounting, garment technology, etc. High-quality training majors have been reduced by 20% compared to 2017 to increase enrollment quotas for mass programs.
Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry also adjusted internal quotas for majors such as stopping enrollment in computer engineering technology majors due to changes in the list of major codes, reducing quotas for majors with low labor demand such as environment, increasing quotas for some majors in engineering, English language, etc.
Ho Chi Minh City University of Food Industry reduced the quota for some majors in the technology group (such as environmental resource management). Ho Chi Minh City University of Architecture reduced 50 quotas for the construction engineering major at its Ho Chi Minh City campus, industrial design increased 100 quotas...
In 2018, Ho Chi Minh City University of Science reduced 100 quotas in the group of computer and information technology majors at the university level and reduced 90 quotas at the college level compared to 2017 in the mass program to focus on investing in improving the quality of advanced, high-quality training programs.
