Morning Stars of Nghe An
(Baonghean) - They are all beautiful, young and talented, honored in turn on the prestigious stage of Vietnamese music and have the same desire to contribute. In particular, 3 female singers of Sao Mai 2013 contest named Trang: Tran Huyen Trang; Dinh Thi Trang and Tran Thi Trang are shining on the country's music stages.
Tran Thi Huyen Trang:“Folk songs nourish my soul”
Tran Thi Huyen Trang (Vinh City) won the folk music championship of Sao Mai 2013. The victory was not surprising to those who knew Trang. Born and raised in a family with an artistic tradition, Huyen Trang was a famous artist since childhood. At the age of 11, Huyen Trang went to Hanoi to study the monochord at the Hanoi Conservatory of Music. After 6 years of playing the monochord, her thorough knowledge of traditional music supported her turning point decision: singing folk songs.

“Many people sing folk songs, but to sing them delicately, deeply and passionately is very rare. Luckily, I was able to live in the “cradle” of Nghe Tinh’s Vi and Giam since I was a child, so I easily felt and was moved by the soul of folk songs. Later, with the guidance and guidance of dedicated teachers such as Ms. Ho Mo La, Thu Lan and Meritorious Artist Ro Cham Phiang, my folk singing voice became more soulful and profound” – Tran Huyen Trang confided.
When meeting Huyen Trang, it is easy to recognize her sincerity, rich emotions and more than that, her determination on the thorny path of art. These days, joy is shining for Huyen Trang because she has just successfully released her first album called “Words of the Heart” consisting of 10 songs with folk melodies.
“Sometimes people advise me to switch to a more modern music genre to develop more easily, but I think I am still young and have a dream, so I should live my dream to the fullest. Nghe An folk music is the cradle that nurtures my soul, I am willing to repay and spread that source to the public” - Tran Huyen Trang shared.
Dinh Thi Trang: Always "renew" herself
Winning second prize in chamber music at Sao Mai stage, one would think that Dinh Trang has changed a lot. But when meeting her, there is still a Dinh Trang with a chubby face, smiling eyes that add charm to her gentle, thoughtful way of talking with an unfading Nghe accent.

“I come from Cua Lo. Many people say that because I am a girl from the sea, my voice is both soulful and sweet, and has unmistakable sublime notes” – Dinh Trang smiled brightly, “showing off” the audience’s affection for her with such sincere confessions.
Pursuing chamber music is a big challenge for a young singer like Dinh Trang. To bring this music closer to the public, she knows she must always set herself the challenge of renewing her singing and performing style. The challenge is certainly not easy, because when "swimming out into the big ocean" and integrating into the capital's music market, Dinh Trang is self-reliant.
Dinh Trang shared: “I am preparing to release my first CD and MV called “Nostalgia for Spring”. The CD and MV are songs with lyrical folk melodies, with the “quality” of Nghe Tinh’s Vi and Giam. I want to send them to my mother and the children of Nghe An who are far away from home as a New Year’s gift, reminding them of the land of Lao wind”. These are meaningful products that affirm the identity of Nghe An in the domestic music market.
Tran Thi Trang: A teacher with a passion for singing
Also in the chamber music genre, if Dinh Trang is passionate and bold in her new experiments, Tran Trang is meticulous and careful in her breathing and word placement. Listening to Tran Trang sing “Nguoi con gai song La”, “Goi anh”…, the audience is easily “overwhelmed” by her strong and deep voice. Few people know that this singer came to the path of art quite late.

Born in 1986 in Hung Thong (Hung Nguyen), she had no background in music theory and never thought she would pursue a career in music, but then, while studying English Pedagogy at Nghe An Pedagogical College, the school sent her to sing in student art competitions, Tran Trang gradually realized her strengths and passion under the spotlight. She boldly sought out a teacher to learn singing. Every Friday night, she took the train to Hanoi to learn singing, and on Sunday night, she "jumped" the train back to Vinh to be on time for school.
After a whole year like that, her voice gradually “broke”, that was when Tran Trang registered for the intermediate level exam, National Conservatory of Music and got a high score. But then, because she only had a few months left to graduate from Nghe An Pedagogical College, Tran Trang had to temporarily put her singing dream on hold. A year later, she registered for the university level exam at the Conservatory of Music and continued to enroll. That leap surprised her friends and relatives, and even Tran Trang herself admitted that it “felt like a dream”.
Coming out of the Sao Mai competition with third prize in the chamber music category, Tran Trang has had many opportunities to stand on big stages. Currently, she is a soloist of the Vietnam National Opera and Ballet, and is studying for a master's degree in vocal performance.
