The Len Co quarry collapse occurred in 2011.

At approximately 7:30 AM on April 1, 2011, nearly 40 people were quarrying stone at the Len Co quarry (located in Nam Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district) when the quarry suddenly collapsed. Some managed to escape, but 24 others were buried, resulting in 18 deaths and 6 injuries.

This quarry was licensed to Chín Mến Co., Ltd., headed by Mr. Phan Văn Chín. The police investigation agency has initiated legal proceedings, arrested and detained the quarry owner, Phan Công Chín, and brought him to trial for negligence causing serious consequences.

The initial cause of the quarry collapse was due to inadequate mining techniques, resulting in a hollowed-out base and exposed rock formations. This, combined with blasting and rain, caused the rock layer at the top to erode, leading to the tragic accident.
