A sea eagle hunting for prey, a coconut octopus sitting on black sand and a ribbon eel are among the winning images in the 2017 underwater photo contest announced by Scuba Magazine.

Photographer Greg Lecoeur captured an incredible image of ospreys diving into the water to hunt for food off Noss Island in Shetland, Scotland. He said he was surrounded by thousands of birds as they caught mackerel. The image won Lecoeur $1,000 and a liveaboard trip to Fiji. |

In the Lembeh Strait, Indonesia, Kevin Richter said he found a very special type of coconut octopus sitting on the black sand at the bottom of the sea, right next to his boat at a depth of just 4m. He said that although it looked like night, the photo was taken on a sunny afternoon, because the octopus did not stop for long, so he had to act quickly. This photo won first prize in the compact camera category. |
