There are morning activities that can help energize you for the entire workday.

Don't use your phone as an alarm clock.

More than half of us use our smartphones as alarms, then start our day by checking emails and messages. This seems harmless, but in reality, it increases stress levels, with cortisol and adrenaline peaking. This can drain our energy throughout the day. Put your phone in another room for better sleep and use a traditional alarm clock to reduce morning stress.

Do not use toothpaste.

Studies show that people who brush their teeth with a dry toothbrush (following toothpaste) experience a 63% reduction in plaque and a 55% reduction in gum bleeding. The bristles tend to be stiffer when dry and therefore clean plaque more effectively. Additionally, you're more likely to brush longer with a dry toothbrush because you can clearly feel the clean sensation on your teeth and tongue. With toothpaste, the strong smell can cause you to stop brushing before plaque is removed. With a dry toothbrush, you can multitask while brushing.

Stretching while showering

Don't just stand still while showering; stretch. This improves circulation and helps the lymphatic system move to eliminate toxins. Warm water will help make your muscles more flexible. First, bend over, trying to touch your toes with your hands, and hold for 30 seconds. Raise your arms towards the sky; this stretches the spine and improves posture.

Don't oversleep.

You set your alarm half an hour earlier and then go back to sleep before fully waking up. This is a bad habit. You're losing 30 minutes of good sleep, opting instead for restless, low-quality sleep, which will ultimately leave you feeling tired during the day. Set your alarm for the exact time you need to wake up and place the clock far from your bed so you have to get out of bed to turn it off.

Drink warm water.

Drinking coffee on an empty stomach can cause heartburn, indigestion, and blood sugar fluctuations that can make you irritable. Furthermore, morning coffee doesn't necessarily make you more alert. Between 8 and 9 a.m., cortisol levels (the hormone that keeps us awake) peak. Scientists have found that drinking coffee during this peak reduces the effects of caffeine and simultaneously creates greater tolerance (meaning you'll need more later to stay awake). Make it a habit to drink a glass of warm water with a little lemon first; this can help stimulate digestive secretions, making breakfast more enjoyable, and only enjoy coffee after you've eaten, ideally after 9 a.m.

Check your weight.

Weighing yourself after using the restroom and before breakfast will give you the most accurate results. Do this daily. Research from Brown University in the US found that 61% of dieters did this to maintain their weight over 18 months, mainly because it helped them detect weight gain early.

Exposure to light

Open the curtains and eat breakfast near the window. According to a US study, people who are exposed to even moderate levels of morning sunlight have a lower body mass index (BMI) than those exposed to sunlight later in the day. The study suggests that insufficient morning sunlight can disrupt the body's circadian rhythm, affecting metabolism and leading to weight gain. Going outdoors in the morning, ideally for light exercise, can help reduce stress, activate muscles, and curb snacking.
