Car brands that retain their value best when resold
Honda, Lexus and Kia are the three brands with the best resale value after a period of use, according to JD Power's annual study.
J.D. Power's annual ALG Residual Value Awards named Honda the best mass-market brand, while Lexus topped the luxury segment.
The annual study identifies the resale values of vehicles with the highest percentage of recoveries compared to the manufacturer’s suggested retail price after three years of ownership. This year, 13 automakers were honored across 29 ranked segments.

The process involved evaluating 291 models through analysis of used car performance, brand prospects, and product competitiveness. The award rules also require an automaker to have products in at least four different segments. In each segment, there must be at least four brands participating. This year, the large car segment had only three competitors, so it was not considered for the award.
Accordingly, while Honda is the best mass-market brand, Kia is the brand with the most awards, in 5 different segments, and includes the K5, Rio, Sportage, Soul and Telluride models. Toyota also won 4 times (with GR Supra, 4Runner, Tacoma and Tundra), equal to the number of awards that Honda received (Civic, Passport, HR-V and Odyssey).
Lexus is the brand with the best resale value in the luxury segment, and the Japanese company received two awards in total, with the IS and LX models.
Among the brands that received more than one award were Land Rover (Range Rover Velar, Discovery and Range Rover Evoque), Chevrolet (Bolt EV and Silverado 2500 HD), Mercedes (AMG GT 4-Door and Metris), and Porsche (911 and Macan). The remaining brands that received one award each were Acura (Integra), Audi (A6 Allroad), GMC (Hummer EV Pickup), Jeep (Wagoneer) and Subaru (WRX).
