Leaders of the G7 countries (including the UK, Germany, Italy, Canada, the US, France and Japan) issued a final statement after the summit in Biarritz, France ended on August 26.

“The G7 leaders wish to underline their great unity and the positive spirit of the debates. The G7 summit hosted by France in Biarritz has successfully resulted in agreements between the heads of state and government on a number of summary points,” the statement said.

Regional crises

On the issue of Iran, the G7 leaders affirmed: “We absolutely share two goals: Ensuring that Iran never obtains nuclear weapons and strengthening peace and stability in the region.”

Regarding Ukraine, the statement said that “France and Germany will hold a Normandy format summit in the coming weeks to achieve tangible results.”

In the context of the situation in Libya, G7 leaders stressed that “only a political solution can ensure the stability of Libya”.

“We call for a well-planned international conference that brings together all interested parties and relevant actors in this conflict. We support the efforts of the United Nations and the European Union to arrange an intra-Libyan conference on this issue.”

The G7 leaders noted that, “The G7 is committed to open and fair world trade and to the stability of the global economy.”

“The G7 wants to reform the World Trade Organization (WTO) to improve its effectiveness in the area of ​​intellectual property protection, resolve disputes more quickly and eliminate unfair trade practices. The G7 is committed to reaching an agreement in 2020 to simplify regulatory barriers and modernize the international taxation system within the framework of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD),” the statement said.
