The incident happened in Hoi Thanh hamlet, Xuan Hiep commune (Tra On district, Vinh Long). In early 2013, young man Doan Van Liem (born in 1988) suddenly started talking nonsense, showing signs of mental illness, making Liem's parents very worried and scared.
Mrs. Hang and her husband took Liem to Mr. Hoang (in the same hamlet) to be treated with magic spells. Here, Mr. Hoang wrote the spell on paper and burned coconut oil with garlic and cotton to steam Liem for 2 consecutive days, but his illness did not improve.
The next day at Mr. Hoang's house, a man named Tu burned incense and waved it at Liem. Tu used chopsticks to pry open Liem's teeth, continuously poured cooking oil into Liem's mouth, and used his two legs to stomp on Liem's chest and then step down to his stomach, lifted Liem's head up, and slammed it hard on the wooden board many times, despite Liem's miserable screams.
After a while of “treating” Liem, seeing that he was getting weaker, Mr. Hoang told Mrs. Hang and her husband to take Liem to another doctor for treatment. But before he could call a car to take him there, Liem died.
