Previously, on June 29, 2015, the Nam Tu Liem District Police (Hanoi) detained Luc Toan Trung (24 years old) on charges of threatening to kill someone. The victim was Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuyet (Trung's mother).
On June 26, 2015, while taking her granddaughter to school, Ms. Tuyet was threatened by Trung with a sharp knife held to her face. Terrified, the woman did not dare to react. Afterward, the 24-year-old went upstairs, retrieved a 50 cm long machete, and brought it downstairs intending to attack his mother. Fortunately, the victim managed to escape and report the incident to the police.
When authorities arrived, Trung was still in a frenzy, slashing at furniture with a knife and shouting insults. Ms. Tuyet said that Trung was addicted to methamphetamine and frequently gambled. About a month ago, he demanded that his mother sell the house to get money for his business, but Ms. Tuyet refused. In mid-June, he even bought a plastic gun to threaten his mother.

Around 11 PM on April 1, 2014, To Minh Nhat Hai (born in 1981, commonly known as Sin, residing at 100 Nhat Tao Street, Ward 4, District 10) was high on methamphetamine and demanded to go out to continue partying. Fearing her son would cause trouble, Mrs. Pham Thi H. (born in 1952, Sin's mother) tried to stop him. Sin then threatened his mother, saying that if she didn't let him out, he would stab her to death with a knife.
Thinking her son wouldn't dare do anything reckless, Mrs. H. remained adamant about not letting Sỉn go outside. Enraged, Sỉn ran to get a knife and stabbed his mother multiple times with fatal blows. The cold-blooded knife of the drug-crazed man plunged straight into the right side of his elderly mother's chest, causing her to cry out in pain.
While asleep, Từ Minh Định M. (Sỉn's older brother) heard his mother's desperate cries and ran downstairs to investigate, discovering the incident. Immediately, Mr. M. lunged at Sỉn from behind to restrain him. Seeing this, Sỉn pulled the knife out of Mrs. H.'s chest, intending to stab himself in the back to escape Mr. M.'s grip. Mr. M.'s wife, Ms. Lan, hit Sỉn on the head with a stick to knock him unconscious and control his frenzied actions. However, Sỉn did not faint but became even more enraged.
Fortunately, a couple selling fertilized duck eggs happened to pass by, heard the desperate cries, and rushed into the house to help. They managed to subdue Sỉn and simultaneously reported the incident to the authorities for resolution.

At 8:00 AM on May 31st, while Ms. Nguyen Thi Gam, daughter of Mr. Nguyen Quang Que (born 1957, residing in Khanh Hau hamlet, Hung Hoa commune, Vinh City, Nghe An province), was resting, she was suddenly harassed by Tran Manh Cuong (residing in the same hamlet) who came in from the street. Terrified, Gam resisted, whereupon Cuong immediately pulled out a sharp knife he had concealed on his person and stabbed her three times through the pillow near where she was sitting.
Hearing the commotion outside, Mr. Que came out of the house and saw his daughter being teased by Cuong. He loudly ordered Cuong out of the house. Seeing that Cuong was still causing trouble, Mr. Que grabbed a broom from the corner of the house and chased him away. A moment later, Cuong returned, carrying a shovel with an iron blade, about 80cm long and 20cm long, and chased after Mr. Que, striking him once on the back of the neck. Due to the sudden and forceful blow from behind, Mr. Que couldn't react in time and fainted on the spot.
Seeing Mr. Que unconscious, Cuong still didn't stop but continued to pull out the sharp knife he had concealed on his person and stabbed Mr. Que twice in the side and forehead before fleeing the scene.
After his arrest, Cuong confessed that after using methamphetamine and becoming intoxicated, he saw Gam lying on a wooden platform in the yard when he passed by Mr. Que's house and intended to tease her for fun. Unexpectedly, when Mr. Que discovered him and chased him out of the house, Cuong lost control of his actions and severely injured Mr. Que.
According to Dr. Nguyen Huu Khanh Duy, Director of the Thanh Da Drug Rehabilitation and Treatment Center, in an interview with the Ho Chi Minh City Women's Newspaper, "crystal meth" (a crystalline form) is made from synthetic drugs containing methamphetamine, which causes stimulation. Users will certainly become addicted like with other types of drugs. New users of low doses may experience increased heart rate, respiratory rate, blood pressure, and body temperature, as well as dry mouth, sweating, diarrhea, and loss of appetite. With higher doses, users become talkative, hyperactive, aggressive, experience insomnia, lose their ability to think clearly, and have increased sexual desire. Additionally, they may exhibit bizarre behavior due to agitation. In the throes of the drug, experiencing frenzied hallucinations, extreme euphoria, and paranoia bordering on madness, methamphetamine addicts engage in self-destructive behavior or become "monsters," harming those around them, even their loved ones... |
