The next afternoon, all four people showed symptoms of poisoning. Three people passed away one after another. Due to his low alcohol tolerance, Hoang Anh only sat and sipped a little for fun, so he was lucky to escape death.

At around 10:00 a.m. on May 31, 2012, Minh, Ut, Hung (43 years old) and Hai, residing in Hiep Hoa commune, Bien Hoa city, Dong Nai province, invited each other to go to the house of Nguyen Van Chim (46 years old, residing in Tam Hoa hamlet, Quyet Thang commune, in the same commune to drink. Here, the group bought alcohol at a grocery store near Chim's house to drink.

After finishing drinking and returning home, Mr. Ut had symptoms such as vomiting and blurred vision, so his family took him to the hospital for emergency treatment. The remaining people continued to be present at Mr. Chim's house on the morning of June 1st to buy more alcohol to continue drinking.

After this drinking party, Hai, Hung and Minh all had symptoms of vomiting and dizziness. Their families took them to Dong Nai General Hospital for emergency treatment.

3. Died on the spot due to challenging each other to drink alcohol with a mug

According to Mr. Thang, on the morning of October 23, Mr. Phan Van Rip, also living in Hamlet 2, Nhut Chanh Commune, invited three friends in the neighborhood to drink. After finishing one liter of wine on the table, the drinkers left and went to sleep. Seeing that it was not enough, Mr. Rip bought two more liters of wine and invited Mr. Thang to continue drinking.

The wine was poured into a mug to drink, not a small glass. Seeing me down the whole mug, Mr. Rip also drank, and then I don't remember anything. When I woke up, I found myself in the hospital and heard that Mr. Rip had died on the spot," the survivor said.

Two days later, Mr. Nam felt blurred vision, then fell into a deep coma, had low blood pressure and was hospitalized in a state of respiratory failure, severe blood poisoning with high methanol content.

6. Salmost died of nPoisoning by poppy wine

In mid-December 2012, Ms. D.HP (22 years old, residing in Minh Khai, Hanoi) was admitted to the Poison Control Center (Bach Mai Hospital) in a state of agitation, agitation, constant vomiting, and a strong smell of alcohol. Test results showed that this patient tested positive for drugs, the cause being drinking wine soaked with poppy flowers.

Wine soaked with poppy flowers is very poisonous and dangerous. Because wine is poisonous, poppy flowers (opium) are also poisonous. Drinking wine soaked with poppy flowers means bringing two harms into the body, the harm caused by alcohol and the harm caused by drugs. If a person continuously uses this type of wine, he will become addicted, no different from an addict who is addicted to both alcohol and drugs.

7. Death from alcohol poisoning during Tet holiday

The incident occurred during the Lunar New Year and the first days of 2017. The victim was Mr. N.D.T, 47 years old, from Thach That, Hanoi. He was taken to a nearby hospital by his relatives in a state of headache, blurred vision, and lethargy. Immediately afterwards, the patient was quickly transferred to the Poison Control Center, Bach Mai Hospital.

Here, patient N.D.T was in a coma, with low blood pressure, brain damage and cardiac arrest. After efforts to revive the heart, the patient was prescribed dialysis and treatment for kidney failure. However, Mr. T had kidney failure, severe brain damage, and was unable to recover. He could not be saved, so his family asked to take patient T. home. The patient later died from methanol poisoning.

First aid for alcohol poisoning

When the victim shows signs of alcohol poisoning, family members should prop the patient up with pillows, head and shoulders higher. If there is phlegm, wheezing, or unconsciousness, lay the patient on one side. Then, try to induce vomiting and rub both cheeks vigorously.

If the weather is cold, the patient needs to be kept warm. Care and monitoring of the patient is necessary (ensure even, smooth, and rosy breathing, and respond to calls). The patient should never be left to sleep all day or all night. Every few hours, the patient must be woken up. If the patient is awake and able to eat and drink, feed them porridge... to avoid hypoglycemia.

Give the patient plenty of warm water to avoid dehydration and to dilute the alcohol concentration in the body, helping the alcohol elimination process to be quick and smooth. The patient can drink fresh ginger juice, green tea, hot milk, orange juice, lemon juice, tomato juice, grapefruit juice... which can help detoxify alcohol in mild form.

Do not let the patient fall or hit hard objects, do not put hard objects in the mouth.

Always observe the patient carefully. If the patient is not awake, has a lot of phlegm, cannot be woken up when shaken, breathes quickly and deeply, or even has convulsions... Or if the patient wakes up but has a severe headache, dizziness and blurred vision, photophobia, eye pain, double vision, decreased or lost vision, sweating, cold hands and feet, pale skin... then keep the patient in a safe head-up position, lying on their side, then quickly call for help or an ambulance to transport the patient to a medical facility for timely emergency care.
