(Baonghean) - Entering the new year 2015, the people of Xat and Diem villages, Chau Khe border commune (Con Cuong district), have two new, sturdy suspension bridges, bringing joy to the people, especially the students.

Previously, people in the two villages had to live in fear crossing the stream on a dangerous, makeshift bridge. But since the two suspension bridges were inaugurated, everyone here is happy because they no longer worry when crossing. Nearly 50 people from 15 households in Xat village, living on the other side of the stream, now have bridges, making travel convenient and easy, eliminating the fear of going to their fields and working; and 30 students can now attend school safely every day, without having to miss classes during the flood season.

The suspension bridge also facilitates the transportation of goods, making it easier for people to buy and sell agricultural products like corn and cassava, preventing price manipulation by traders as before. This creates favorable conditions for local authorities to fully exploit and develop the land potential on both sides of the river.

The suspension bridges in Bản Xát and Bản Diềm are two of six pedestrian suspension bridges being built in Con Cuông district, with the General Department of Roads as the investor. They are designed for use by pedestrians, bicycles, livestock, and poultry. It is expected that all six suspension bridges in the district will be put into use by June 2015.

For a mountainous district like Con Cuong, where up to 70% of the population are ethnic minorities living in remote areas with many streams, these pedestrian suspension bridges will change their lives, and they will also be able to improve their lives, reducing their dependence on subsidies as before.
